Welcome back to an episode of Tellavision. It's been a long time since I made one of these, but we're back with it. We've got a bunch of cool things that I want to share with you inside the product and outside of the product, so let's get into it.

Now, before, though, if this is the first time, Tellavision is basically like a product newsletter in video form. So, I just share all the new stuff that's happening at Tella in a video. You get to watch it, and you can also read about it in the newsletter.

Before we get into the real stuff, we've got a launch on Product Hunt today for an animated background pack.

We made a bunch of animated backgrounds that we're using in the product I'm going to tell you more about how you can use them in the product a bit later, but we've open-sourced them where you can just download them and use them in your own projects.

Video Renderer

So onto the real stuff. Now, the first thing I want to tell you about is the new Video Renderer.

Now, if you've spoken to me over the last nearly six months maybe, you've probably heard me say something about the video renderer and it's one of the reasons that we've been a little bit quieter than usual when it comes to shipping updates because all of our team's focus has been on rebuilding and figuring out this new video renderer.

Basically, at the start of the year, we shipped a bunch of stuff, and then we kind of maxed out the video renderer. We were pushing it way too hard, and so we had to go back and make a new one.

It was a long, hard process, but we're out the other side and it's much better, much more stable, and it can do new cool things that we are only scratching the surface of. So we're just excited to be able to build new stuff on top of this.

Up until now, it's really just been about getting the new one ready. So hopefully there's going to be some really cool stuff that we can add to the product in the coming months.

I just want to thank you all for your patience while we go through that process. There's still some stuff, some final issues that we need to fix, but the core stuff is there, and excited to ship new things for you.

Background Picker

While we were wrapping up work on the video renderer, we did manage to ship a couple of new things. One of them was the one I mentioned that is on Product Hunt which I'm going to talk about that in a second. But a broader one is a complete update to our Background Picker.

So, if you head over here, click on Background, you'll see a completely redesigned background picker.

It's a big improvement over the last one. The last one was just a list of backgrounds, a place for you to upload them, and a very basic color picker.

This time we've made some categorizations so you can easily access stuff that you've recently used. You can quickly upload and then see the library of all the stuff that you've uploaded. We have got a better way of showing you Unsplash and letting you navigate through that.

We've also got the classic Tella backgrounds, plus some new ones in there and then we've also got some macOS backgrounds because that was a very popular request. People wanted to use the macOS ones and there are a few in there.

Then we've got the Animated Background section.

This is the new thing that we've launched on Product Hunt. Now you can add video backgrounds to your creations in Tella. So, if I select something and play it back, you will that see there's a nice little animation going on in the back there.

It's basically like a nice looping little animation a few seconds long and we just loop it over and over. There are a ton of cool styles in here from geometric shapes, grainy, wavy gradients, to a depiction of the night sky. So, yeah, go and play around with them.

Let us know what you think and let us know what other cool styles you want to see added in there and we'll get them added.

And finally, we have given the Color Picker some TLC.

You can pick your colors and they'll stay here and you can kind of remember them. You can also pick your gradients now, and that's really cool. So you can go on and you can basically design your own gradient.

Once you've designed it, it'll show up in the gradients section and you can reuse your custom-made gradient which wasn't possible before. So a nice little upgrade on the past.
