This award has been won by tl;dv for two years in a row. Their green-screen remixes of The Shining and The Wolf of Wall Street were product video comedy gold. With the closest competition nowhere in sight. But this year there is a new Lord of the Laughs and his name is Marc Louvion.
But the name on the trophy is the only thing new about this year's award. Marc has claimed the 2023 title using the tl;dv's proven recipe. Take one iconic TV scene, then add one (or two) green-screen versions of yourself, and top it off with your startup's pitch, and you've got yourself a winner.
Nothing should be taken away from Marc's masterpiece though.
Incorporating The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again into a launch video is worthy of an award on its own. But that's just the start. The founder dying of burnout; the way the forensic bobs up into shot; the detective sliding on his glasses deal-with-it style as he proposes the counterfactual. Class.
And probably the best thing about the video is that the whole concept, the joke, and what the product does is conveyed in a concise 22 seconds.
Great job Marc. You're the 2023 Product Video of the Year Awards King of Comedy.
