Timeline Grades

Color corrections applied directly to the timeline itself, affecting all clips below them.

What is timeline grades in DaVinci Resolve?

Timeline grades in DaVinci Resolve refer to the color grading adjustments made directly on the timeline. This feature allows users to apply color corrections and effects to multiple clips at once, rather than having to adjust each clip individually. This can be particularly useful when working on larger projects with many clips, as it can significantly speed up the color grading process.

The timeline grades are non-destructive, meaning they do not permanently alter the original footage. Instead, they create a new layer of color correction that can be toggled on and off, or adjusted as needed. This allows for a great deal of flexibility and experimentation, as users can try out different looks without fear of ruining their original footage.

How to use timeline grades in DaVinci Resolve?

DaVinci Resolve's timeline grades feature allows you to apply color grading across multiple clips in the timeline. To use this feature, first, open the Color page and select the clip you want to grade. Then, use the color grading tools to adjust the look of the clip to your liking.

Once you've created a grade you're happy with, you can apply it to other clips in the timeline. To do this, go to the Clips panel, right-click on the clip with the grade you want to copy, and select 'Grab Still'. This will save the grade as a still. Then, select the clips you want to apply the grade to, right-click on the saved still, and select 'Apply Grade'. This will apply the grade to all selected clips.

Remember, timeline grades are a powerful tool, but they should be used with care. Always check each clip individually after applying a timeline grade to ensure it looks as expected.

Why is my timeline grade not working in DaVinci Resolve?

There could be several reasons why your timeline grade is not working in DaVinci Resolve. One common issue could be related to the software version you are using. If you are using an older version of DaVinci Resolve, it may not support certain features or may have bugs that have been fixed in later versions. Therefore, it's recommended to update your software to the latest version.

Another possible reason could be related to your project settings. If your project settings are not correctly configured, it may affect the functionality of the timeline grade. Make sure that your settings match the requirements of the timeline grade feature. Additionally, it could be a hardware issue. DaVinci Resolve is a resource-intensive program that requires a powerful computer to run smoothly. If your computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements, you may experience problems with certain features.
