Private Video

A video that can only be viewed by the creator and selected users.

What is a private video in YouTube?

A private video on YouTube is a type of video that can only be viewed by specific users who have been granted access by the uploader. When a video is set to private, it does not appear in YouTube's search results, the uploader's video tab, subscriber feeds, or recommendations. It also cannot be commented on or liked by viewers.

To view a private video, you must receive an invitation directly from the uploader. The uploader can invite up to 50 individual users to view the video by sending them a direct link. These users must have a Google account and be signed into YouTube to access the video. This feature is often used by individuals or companies who want to control who can view their content.

How to make a YouTube video private?

To make a YouTube video private, you first need to sign in to your YouTube account. Once you're signed in, click on your profile picture located at the top right corner of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "YouTube Studio". This will take you to your YouTube dashboard where you can manage all your videos.

In the YouTube Studio, you'll see a list of all your uploaded videos. Find the video you want to make private and click on the pencil icon (Details) next to it. Under the "Visibility" section on the right side of the screen, click on the drop-down menu and select "Private". Click "Save" to apply the changes. Now, your video is private and only visible to you.

Who can view a private video on YouTube?

A private video on YouTube can only be viewed by the uploader and the people they choose to share the video with. When a video is set to private, the uploader has the option to share the video with up to 50 other users. These users must have a Google account and they must be specifically invited by the uploader via email through the YouTube video sharing function.

However, the uploader has full control over who can view their private video. They can add or remove people at any time, and they can also change the video's privacy setting. If the video's privacy setting is changed to public or unlisted, then more people will be able to view the video. But as long as the video remains private, only the uploader and their chosen viewers will have access to it.

Can a private video on YouTube be shared?

Yes, a private video on YouTube can be shared, but only with specific people. When you upload a video and set it to private, it will not be visible to the public or appear in search results. However, YouTube provides an option to share the video with specific YouTube users. You can do this by entering their email addresses in the "Share with specific users" section under the video's privacy settings.

Once you've added the email addresses and clicked "Share," those users will receive an email invitation to view the video. They must be signed into their YouTube account to watch the video. It's important to note that the people you've shared the video with can't download the video from YouTube, nor can they share the video with others.
