Linking Unlinking Clips

A feature that allows the user to link or unlink audio and video tracks of a clip.

What is linking/unlinking clips in DaVinci Resolve?

Linking and unlinking clips in DaVinci Resolve is a feature that allows users to connect or disconnect video and audio clips in the timeline. When clips are linked, any changes made to one (such as moving, trimming, or deleting) will automatically apply to the other. This is particularly useful when you want to keep video and audio in sync.

Unlinking clips, on the other hand, allows you to manipulate video and audio separately. For instance, you might want to replace the original audio with a different track, or adjust the length of one without affecting the other. To unlink clips in DaVinci Resolve, you simply select the linked clips and choose 'unlink clips' from the context menu.

How do I link and unlink clips in DaVinci Resolve?

To link clips in DaVinci Resolve, first, select the clips you want to link together in the timeline. You can do this by clicking on a clip and then holding down the Control (or Command on a Mac) key while clicking on additional clips. Once you have selected all the clips you want to link, right-click on one of them and select "Link Clips" from the context menu. The selected clips will now move and be edited together as if they were a single clip.

To unlink clips, the process is similar. Select the linked clips in the timeline by clicking on them while holding down the Control (or Command on a Mac) key. Then, right-click on one of the selected clips and choose "Unlink Clips" from the context menu. The clips will now be independent of each other and can be moved and edited separately.

Why can't I unlink my clips in DaVinci Resolve?

Unlinking clips in DaVinci Resolve may not be possible due to several reasons. One of the most common reasons is that the clips you are trying to unlink are not actually linked in the first place. In DaVinci Resolve, only clips that have been specifically linked together can be unlinked. If you are trying to unlink clips that were not linked, the unlink option will not be available.

Another reason could be that you are not in the correct mode or using the correct tool. To unlink clips, you need to be in the selection mode and use the 'link' tool. If you are in a different mode or using a different tool, the unlink option may not be available. Also, it's important to note that in some versions of DaVinci Resolve, you can only unlink audio and video of the same clip, not two separate clips.

What does linking and unlinking clips in DaVinci Resolve do?

Linking and unlinking clips in DaVinci Resolve is a feature that allows users to connect or disconnect video and audio tracks. When clips are linked, any changes made to one (like moving, trimming, or deleting) will automatically apply to the other. This is particularly useful when you want to keep the video and audio in sync.

On the other hand, unlinking clips allows you to manipulate the video and audio tracks independently of each other. This is useful when you want to adjust the timing of the audio separately from the video, or replace the audio with a different track. After unlinking, you can also link the clips back together if needed. This flexibility in managing audio and video tracks makes DaVinci Resolve a powerful tool for video editing.
