Group Clips

A function to link clips together so they can be moved or edited as a single unit.

What is a group clip in ScreenFlow?

A group clip in ScreenFlow is a feature that allows users to combine multiple clips into one single clip. This is particularly useful when you want to apply the same effects or adjustments to several clips at once, or when you want to move, cut, or otherwise manipulate multiple clips as if they were a single entity. Grouping clips can help to simplify your timeline, making it easier to navigate and manage.

To create a group clip, you simply select the clips you want to group, right-click, and choose the "New Group Clip from Selection" option. Once the clips are grouped, any changes you make to the group clip will apply to all the clips within the group. However, you can still access and edit each individual clip within the group if needed. This feature enhances the efficiency and flexibility of video editing in ScreenFlow.

How to group clips in ScreenFlow?

Grouping clips in ScreenFlow can be done in a few simple steps. First, you need to select the clips you want to group together. You can do this by clicking on the first clip, then holding down the Shift key and clicking on the last clip. This will select all the clips in between. Alternatively, you can hold down the Command key and click on each clip you want to select if they are not next to each other.

Once you have selected all the clips you want to group, you can right-click on one of them and select "Nest Clips" from the drop-down menu. This will create a new clip that contains all the selected clips. This new clip can be moved, resized, or edited as a single unit. To ungroup the clips, you can right-click on the nested clip and select "Unnest Clips". This will return the clips to their original, separate state.

Why can't I group clips in ScreenFlow?

ScreenFlow does not currently support the feature to group clips together. This means that you cannot select multiple clips and group them into one single entity. This can be a limitation when you are trying to organize or edit multiple clips at the same time.

However, there are workarounds to this limitation. You can use the "nesting clips" feature as an alternative. This allows you to combine multiple clips into one, making it easier to move and edit them as a single unit. To do this, you would select the clips you want to nest, right click, and then select "New Nested Clip". Despite this, it's important to note that this is not the same as grouping and may not serve all the same functions.

What are the steps to group clips in ScreenFlow?

Grouping clips in ScreenFlow can be done in a few simple steps. First, you need to select the clips you want to group. You can do this by clicking on a clip to select it and then holding down the 'Shift' key on your keyboard to select multiple clips. Alternatively, you can click and drag your mouse cursor over the clips you want to group to select them all at once.

Once you have selected the clips, right-click on one of them and choose the 'Group' option from the context menu. This will group the selected clips together. You can also use the keyboard shortcut 'Command + G' to group the clips. After grouping, the clips will move and behave as a single unit, making it easier to manage and edit them. To ungroup the clips, simply right-click on the group and select 'Ungroup' or use the 'Command + Shift + G' keyboard shortcut.
