You can connect a ChatGPT plan or a Claude Pro or Max plan in Settings → Connections → AI subscriptions. The Tella Agent then runs that provider’s models on your plan. The agent’s tools and editing workspace still use Tella credits. ChatGPT covers the agent’s OpenAI models, and Claude covers its Claude models. You can connect one or both.

Connect your ChatGPT plan

  1. Go to Settings → Connections and find ChatGPT under AI subscriptions.
  2. Click Connect. The Connect your ChatGPT subscription dialog shows a code.
  3. Click Open ChatGPT settings and turn on device code authorization for Codex.
  4. Click Open device authorization, sign in to OpenAI, and enter the code from the dialog. Use the copy button next to the code to copy it.
  5. Keep the dialog open while it says Waiting for approval — keep this dialog open. It closes once OpenAI approves, and the row shows Connected with your plan.
The code is valid for 15 minutes. If the dialog says This code expired., click Get a new code and enter the new one.

Connect your Claude plan

  1. Go to Settings → Connections and find Claude under AI subscriptions.
  2. Click Connect to open Connect your Claude plan.
  3. Click Sign in to Claude, then sign in and authorize the connection.
  4. Copy the code Claude shows you and paste it into the Authentication code field.
  5. Click Connect. The row shows Connected with your Claude email.

Which messages run on my plan?

Only messages that use a model from the provider you connected. Pick the model from the model menu in the agent’s message box: with ChatGPT connected, OpenAI models run on your plan; with Claude connected, Claude models do. Other models keep using credits as usual. To check, click the credits button next to the agent’s message box. The Credits window lists each connected plan, for example Claude plan connected with Claude models run on your plan. The agent’s tools and workspace still use credits.

Do I still need credits?

Yes, a little. Each message still uses a small amount of credits for the agent’s helper steps and its editing workspace, so you need a paid Tella plan and a workspace balance above zero to send messages. If your balance runs out while a model from your connected plan is selected, the message box says, for example, Your Claude plan covers the model, but the agent’s tools and workspace need credits. In the Credits window, the plan’s row turns yellow. A workspace owner can add credits, or you can wait for your monthly allowance to reset. See Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude plan instead of credits?

What if my Claude plan hits its usage limit?

If your Claude plan refuses a reply, for example because you reached its usage limit, the chat starts its notice with Your Claude plan stopped this reply: followed by Claude’s reason, such as when your limit resets. While your Claude plan is connected, every Claude model runs on it, so trying again with another Claude model hits the same limit. Wait for your plan to reset, or pick a model that isn’t Claude from the model menu to keep going now.

Who does a connection apply to?

Only you, in the workspace where you connected it. Each person connects their own plan, and other members of your workspace keep using credits unless they connect theirs. If you belong to more than one workspace, connect your plan in each one.

Fix a connection that needs reconnecting

If a row shows Needs reconnecting, the sign-in with that provider expired or was revoked. Until you reconnect, that provider’s models use credits instead of your plan. Click Reconnect in Settings → Connections, or in the Credits window, and follow the same steps as when you first connected.

Disconnect a plan

Click Disconnect next to ChatGPT or Claude in Settings → Connections. The agent goes back to using credits for that provider’s models.
