Reactions give viewers a lightweight way to respond to your videos with emoji reactions at specific moments. Reactions appear as emoji markers on the video timeline, so you can see exactly where viewers engaged.
Enabling reactions
Reactions are enabled by default on new videos. To toggle them:
- Open your video in the Tella editor.
- Click Share in the top right.
- Click Viewer settings.
- Toggle Reactions on or off.
When disabled, the reaction bar and timeline markers are hidden from viewers on both the view page and in embedded videos.
You can set reactions as enabled or disabled by default for all new videos in Settings > Preferences > Sharing.
Adding a reaction
While watching a video, viewers can add an emoji reaction at the current playback position:
- Click one of the emoji options in the reaction bar.
- The emoji animates to the timeline and appears as a marker at that timestamp.
Both logged-in users and anonymous viewers can add reactions.
Viewing reactions on the timeline
All reactions from viewers are displayed as clustered emoji markers along the video timeline. Clusters group nearby reactions together, so you can quickly see which moments resonated most.
Hover over a cluster to see the individual emoji counts. Click a cluster to toggle your own reaction on or off.
Reactions and comments serve different purposes:
- Reactions are quick, low-friction emoji responses tied to a moment in the video. They require no text input.
- Comments allow detailed, text-based feedback and support threaded conversations.
You can also add emoji reactions to individual comments. See Comments for details on comment reactions.
