Cut out removes the background from your camera recording, so you can place yourself directly over your canvas or screen recording without a camera frame.

Apply a Cut out layout

  1. Open a video that contains a camera recording.
  2. Click Layout in the editor sidebar.
  3. Find Cut out and select the layout tile.
  4. If your clip contains both a screen and camera, choose which side of the screen to place yourself on. In a portrait or square video, choose whether to appear above or below the screen.
Tella may show Preparing cut-out while it processes your camera recording. You can keep editing while it prepares the result, but Download stays unavailable until processing finishes.

Turn Cut-out on or off while customizing a layout

You can add or remove the Cut-out camera style without changing the rest of a layout:
  1. Open Layout and select Customize layout.
  2. Find the Cut-out control for the camera. On a fullscreen camera layout it is a toggle; on other camera layouts, choose Cut-out under Camera style (pick another shape, such as Circle, to turn it off).
  3. Turn Cut-out on to remove the camera background, or off to restore the camera frame.
You can continue to move and resize yourself on the canvas after applying Cut-out.
Cut-out works best when you are clearly visible and separated from your background.
