You can blur your camera background directly in the Tella recorder. This softens everything behind you so the focus stays on your face, without needing a green screen or third-party app.
Background blur is available in the web app, Chrome extension, and Mac app. It is not currently supported in Safari.

Turn on background blur

  1. Open the recorder and make sure your camera is on.
  2. Click the blur button in the bottom-left corner of the camera preview.
  3. Your background will blur immediately. The recording captures the blurred feed automatically.

Adjust blur intensity

When background blur is enabled, a slider appears next to the blur button.
  • Drag the slider to the right to increase the blur (up to 20).
  • Drag the slider to the left to decrease the blur (down to 1).
Your blur preference is saved automatically and persists across sessions.

Turn off background blur

Click the blur button again to disable the effect. Your camera feed returns to its original, unblurred state.
