The canvas size controls the overall dimensions and aspect ratio of your video. You can choose a preset that matches your target platform — whether that’s a widescreen tutorial, a square social clip, or a vertical story.

Available aspect ratios

Tella supports six canvas presets, grouped by orientation: Landscape
  • 16:9 (1920 × 1080) — standard widescreen, ideal for YouTube, presentations, and most web content
  • 16:10 (1920 × 1200) — slightly taller widescreen, common for laptop displays
  • 4:3 (1440 × 1080) — classic format, useful for slides and traditional presentations
Square
  • 1:1 (1080 × 1080) — works well for Instagram feed posts and LinkedIn
Portrait
  • 4:5 (1080 × 1350) — optimized for Instagram and Facebook feed posts
  • 9:16 (1080 × 1920) — full vertical, ideal for TikTok, Reels, and Stories

How to change the canvas size

  1. Open your video in the editor.
  2. Click the canvas size control (typically shown as the current ratio, such as “16:9”).
  3. Select your desired aspect ratio from the preset options.
Your video will immediately update to reflect the new canvas dimensions. All layouts and layer positions adjust automatically to fit the new aspect ratio.

Tips

  • Choose your canvas size before you start editing. Changing it later will reposition your layouts, which may require adjustments.
  • Custom layouts preserve their design intent across different canvas sizes — you don’t need to recreate them for each ratio.
  • If you’re creating content for multiple platforms, you can duplicate your video and apply a different canvas size to each copy.
