Tella for Windows temporarily saves recording files on your PC before uploading them. Longer recordings and higher quality settings need more local storage.

How much space do I need?

We recommend having at least 5–10 GB of free space before recording. The exact amount depends on the recording length, quality settings, and whether you record your screen, camera, or both.

What happens when space is low?

Current versions of the Windows app protect your recording when storage is low:
  • When you press record, Tella checks free space first. If less than 512 MB is free, the recording doesn’t start and Tella shows an error instead.
  • While you record, Tella keeps checking. If free space falls below 256 MB, it stops the recording safely instead of continuing until the file becomes corrupted.
  • The recording will be shorter than planned, but Tella keeps and uploads the part recorded before it stopped.
Those limits are the hard floor, not a target. Leave several GB free, especially for long or 4K recordings.

Free up disk space

  1. Empty the Recycle Bin.
  2. Remove files you no longer need from Downloads.
  3. Open Settings → System → Storage to review temporary files and cleanup recommendations.
  4. Move large files to another drive or cloud storage.
Free up space before starting again, especially before a long or high-resolution recording.

Where are temporary files stored?

Tella stores temporary recording and upload files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tella, in the Recordings and Uploads folders. Each upload folder is deleted automatically once its files have reached Tella.
Don’t delete anything in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tella\Uploads while a video is still uploading. Those are the only copies of that recording.
