A) and click the Camera crop thumbnail. In the crop window, drag the focus point to choose which part of your camera recording stays centered in layouts, or resize the crop frame to trim the shot. Use it when you were off-center while recording or when a layout crops the camera more tightly than you want.
Change which part of the camera stays centered
- Open your video and select the clip you want to reframe.
- Open Crop → Adjust camera, or click the Camera crop thumbnail under Layout → Adjust.
- Drag the focus point inside the crop selection to choose which part of the camera recording stays centered.
- Choose a scope and save, then preview the clip in different layouts and fine-tune the point as needed.
Crop your camera
Beyond repositioning, you can crop your camera feed to trim away the parts you don’t want, the same way you crop screen recordings. This is useful for tightening the shot around your face or removing distracting background at the edges.-
Open the camera crop tool
- Select your clip, then choose Crop → Adjust camera. The option is disabled if the Camera slot is empty or hidden. You can also click the Camera crop thumbnail in Layout → Adjust.
-
Set your crop
- Drag and resize the crop frame over the part of the camera you want to keep.
- Choose a preset aspect ratio (like 16:9 or 1:1), or select Custom to crop freely.
- Type in exact pixel values for position and size when you need precision.
-
Check the crop across the clip
- Use the timeline below the preview to check your framing at other moments. Click the play button to preview the clip, and click it again to pause. Playback stops at the end; click play again to restart.
- Click the timeline or drag the red playhead to move through the clip. The preview updates to the selected moment so you can confirm that you stay inside the crop frame.
-
Set the focus point and mirror setting
- Drag the focus point inside the crop selection to control which part of the cropped frame stays centered in your layouts.
- Use Mirror camera below the preview if you want to flip the camera horizontally. Your crop follows the mirrored preview.
Apply your crop to other layouts and clips
If your clip uses multiple layouts, or your video has several clips, you don’t need to crop each one by hand: In the crop window, choose a scope from the dropdown next to the Save button:- This layout only crops the camera in the layout you opened the crop tool on without changing the other layouts in the clip. The preview timeline and playback cover only that layout. A focus point you set in the crop window also stays on that layout.
- All layouts in this clip (the default) applies the crop to every layout in the current clip.
- All layouts in all clips copies the crop (and its focus point) to every clip’s camera across your whole video.
The camera’s mirror setting is different: it always applies to the whole clip, so every layout in that clip shares it.
Cropping the camera doesn’t touch your recording. Click Reset in the crop window at any time to return to the full camera frame.
Reframe the camera via the API or MCP
You can also set a clip’s camera crop and focus point programmatically. PasscameraCrop and cameraFocusPoint to PATCH /v1/videos/{id}/clips/{clipId} in the Public API, or to the update_clip tool in the MCP server. Like All layouts in this clip, they apply to every layout in that clip, so set them on each clip to reframe the whole video.
Tips for camera framing
- Aim for centering: In most cases, position yourself close to the center of the frame so viewers focus on you.
- Consider the layout: If your camera is small or off to the side in a layout, slight framing adjustments still make a big difference.
