Atelier - Remote Development Environment

Let's take a look at what that remote development experience in Ottilie actually looks like.

I'm going to take my little to do app here.

I'm just going to make a new workspace.

It's going to show up on the left top here.

And let me start by opening a terminal.

This is a normal terminal.

I can do my favorite C matrix.

I have Nano, I have everything that I'm used to can do NPM install and you can see that I have a little to do app that I prepared here.

Let me do NPM run dev and open a browser in my workspace and hit that dev server.

You can see that I can figure out which things I still need to do.

I have a can go to this plus icon here.

I can have my full VS code set up.

Sometimes if you're working like this it's a little bit too small but whenever you hover over one of these tabs or over pretty much everything in atelier and you hit F, you can turn it into a full screen experience.

So I can go here, hit, hit my normal command P for VS code.

I can go to main ts.

I have all my autocomplete and my stuff.

I'm gonna change the text here and maybe make it red, hit save, undo this full screen and if I go back to the browser you can see that it hot reloaded.

So I tried really hard to make it feel like a local development experience.

we can use a lot of different agents but one I'm gonna show actually get to work first is this one.

I'm gonna say dramatically change the background effect and while that is working I'll make another terminal here just to show that I can start up PI as my coding agent or I can do cloud code.

I guess I haven't installed cloud code here but you can do cloud code or codec cli.

But the agent that I recommend using and that I like using is this built in agent which is based off of PI but has a much more visual style.

You can see it's it's doing work here.

It operates in the same workspace so the same file system as my terminal and my VS code here.

So you'll see that when this guy is writing to files the browser will also hot reload and that kind of gives you an idea for the for the local.

it's not local but it like, it kind of feels like the similar situation that you would have in a local dev setup.

And, in contrast to many other cloud agent solutions, you don't sort of, like, have to fully surrender to the agents.

Like, you can code yourself, you can work yourself, you can work with the agent, you can work alone.

look at that.

It made the background, dramatically different.

And that is kind of the story of the, of the development experience.

but the whole idea is to give you control.

And all of these things, they run inside a single Docker container per workspace here.

So if I'm going to take another, if I'm going to make another empty one here, it will have none of this.

And if you then go back, you will have all your windows and stuff the way you left them.
