There is a lot of information available about becoming an electrician.

The problem is that most people don't know how to put all the pieces together.

You may be asking, where do I start?

How do I get an apprenticeship?

What do employers actually look for?

What skills should I develop?

How do I eventually build a successful career and a well paying career?

That's why you're here.

My goal is to remove some of that confusion and give you a clear path forward.

My name is Dennis Collett or Professor D.

I've spent more than 30 years building my career in the electrical industry.

I've experienced the trade from many different perspectives.

Apprentice, journey person, contractor, business owner, master electrician, college professor and electrical training specialist.

I've also taught electrical students at two colleges, including people who were just beginning their careers and asking many of the same questions you may be asking today.

I've watched students struggle.

I've watched apprentices grow.

I've watched people build successful careers.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is this.

The people who move forward are not always the people who knew the most when they started.

They are often the people who learned how to develop themselves strategically.

There were lessons throughout my career that took years to understand.

I want to help you learn some of those lessons much earlier.

That's one of the reasons I created Ilearn Tricity Academy.

I want to give future electricians and apprentices more than just electrical theory.

I want to help you understand where you're going, what employers value and how to position yourself for better opportunities.

There is no shortcut around hard work, safety, competency or becoming good at your trade.

But these are the ways to avoid unnecessary mistakes, wasted time and confusion.

Throughout the course, we're going to build your foundation.

You'll understand why skilled trades matter.

You'll explore why electrical can be such a powerful long term career.

You'll learn more about the trade and apprenticeship pathway.

We'll talk about the mindset employers want from apprentices and we'll explore how AI can accelerate your learning.

And by the end of the Module, you'll be creating your own electrical career roadmap.

The goal is simple.

Stop guessing and start building your career intentionally.

Throughout this course, I'm also going to share practical career tips and shortcuts.

We'll talk about questions like what should you put on your resume if you have little electrical experience?

What do employers actually want from new apprentices?

How can you begin identifying electrical, employers?

And what can make one apprenticeship candidate stand out from another?

When I use the word shortcut, I'm never talking about shortcuts around safety, training, competency or doing the job properly.

I'm talking about avoiding wasted time, common mistakes and lessons you shouldn't have to learn the hard way.

This is one of the most important lessons I want you to understand early.

An employer does not expect brand new apprentices to know everything.

You're an apprentice because you're there to learn.

But employers are evaluating other things.

Can I depend on this person?

Will they show up?

Will they listen?

Will they work safely?

Can they communicate?

Can they learn?

Will they take responsibility?

Are they worth investing my time into?

Technical ability matters, but attitude, reliability, professionalism and willingness to learn can determine whether you get the opportunity to develop that technical ability.

I don't want your biggest career goal to simply be I want to get an apprenticeship.

Getting the apprenticeship is important, but it is only the beginning.

Your electrical career can continue developing for decades.

You may become a journey person, you may specialize, you may move into industrial work, controls, renewable energy, maintenance, supervision, training, contracting and business ownership.

Start thinking beyond the first job.

Start thinking about the career you want to build.

Throughout I Learntricity Academy, you're going to hear me talk about how to build a six figure career as an electrician.

That does not mean there's a magic shortcut to six figures.

There isn't.

A strong electrical career is built.

You develop knowledge, you develop skills, you gain experience, you build your reputation, you earn qualifications and you become better at solving problems.

And as your value increases, the opportunities available to you can increase as well.

So instead of only asking, how can I make more money?

Start asking, how can I become more valuable?

That is the question I want you, to think about throughout this course.

This course is designed to build the foundation for your electrical career.

I'm going to give you real information, practical advice and career strategies you can begin applying immediately.

The purpose of this stage is to help you understand the pathway where you are starting.

Where do you want to go?

What do employers value and what should you begin working on?

Those are decisions that can help move your Career forward.

By the end of this module, I want you to have much more clarity about the electrician you want to become and the roadmap you will use to move forward.

The Apprentice to Journeyperson accelerator is designed to take you from career clarity into execution.

Throughout the program we build on apprenticeship, apprenticeship strategy, employer selection, resume positioning, employer outreach, professional development, electrical fundamentals, technical competency, and learning how to think about and solve problems like a journeyperson.

The objective is not just simply to get you into the trade.

The objective is to help you become the electrician employers want to hire, keep, develop and give greater responsibility to.

Your career roadmap becomes the foundation for the work ahead as you build your skills, your professional value and your opportunities.

That's how you begin building towards the bigger goal, a six figure career as an electrician.
