I'm Paul Gray, head of marketing here at Rocketspark.
00:03
We're excited to go to market with a brand new marketing specialist role.
00:09
This is a brand new role for us.
00:11
We're looking to put a little bit more spark into our rocket.
00:15
And I thought the best way for you to learn a little bit more about the role is to put some of my teammates into that hot seat over there to find out a little bit more about them and get a tip or two around applying for the job.
00:29
Once you've listened to the video, check out the website.
00:32
We're a marketing team.
00:34
Marketing websites.
00:36
This is a marketing role.
00:38
Marketing websites.
00:40
So the best way for you to learn more is to check out the website, and that is join.rocketspark.com let's get stuck in.
00:50
Let's welcome Grant to the hot seat.
00:53
Grant.
00:53
Come on in.
00:54
Kia ora, Grant, nice to have you here.
00:56
Kia ora.
00:57
Paul.
00:57
Thank you.
00:58
Thank you for having me here.
00:59
Can you please tell us a little bit about your role?
01:02
Who are you?
01:04
Yea h, so I'm, Grant, Johnson, one of the co founders and lead the team at RocketSpark as CEO.
01:10
So what do I do?
01:12
I make sure the dishwasher is empty, that the team got enough finances to fund the team and yeah, I guess just make sure we're having fun on the journey.
01:20
And we're hiring for a marketing specialist.
01:22
Why are we hiring for a marketing specialist right now?
01:25
Well, funny you should say, Paul, but the reality is that we're doing good marketing.
01:31
How you're leading the team and the good stuff that you're doing has encouraged us to go.
01:35
Actually, we want to go a bit faster with what we're doing and we need more help.
01:38
so, yeah, it's pretty cool.
01:40
The stuff we're doing with community and just some of the social stuff we're doing and the storytelling that we're doing is pretty cool, pretty innovative.
01:48
And it's like, how do we do more?
01:50
So, yeah, really excited and supportive of what you as a team are doing with, and why Rocketspark?
01:59
Why should someone work at Rocketspark?
02:01
yeah, I think probably one of the keys is just a lovely bunch of people.
02:03
when we did a values exercise with the team, we asked them, what are our top values?
02:07
And people first was one of the top ones.
02:10
just a great bunch of people.
02:11
It's not the easiest place to get in the door in terms of there's quite a few steps and probably someone applying.
02:16
They'll go through a few steps, but it's a way of making sure that we've got a great bunch of people and it's just a really exciting time.
02:22
We're finding our way.
02:24
AI is allowing us to go faster in terms of what we're building.
02:27
and, yeah, we're really finding our way with what we're doing.
02:30
And if you could give one tip for these people that are going to apply a marketing specialist, what one tip would that be?
02:39
Probably one tip.
02:40
And I learned seeing recruiting for your role as the head of marketing is that the great marketers really set themselves apart with marketing themselves.
02:49
So thinking about what you did, you created a video, you created a website, you told your story that you marketed yourself well and all the people that actually made it to the shortlist process, they did the same, they really told their story well.
03:02
And so I think with this role, if it's kind of boring, AI bland, same as everyone else, because the machine's spitting out the same stuff, you're on the back foot from the start.
03:15
But if you're really innovative and fresh and probably put a little bit of video stuff in there as well, like just really tell your human story and what you've achieved.
03:23
amazing.
03:24
Thank you, Grant.
03:24
Thank you.
03:25
Thank you for taking the hot seat.
03:26
Boom.
03:27
Cut.
03:28
Thanks, Grant.
03:29
Hello, Danielle.
03:30
Welcome to the hot seat.
03:32
Come on, come on down.
03:33
who are you and what do you do here?
03:35
I'm Danielle and I'm the community marketing manager here at Rocketspark.
03:40
And you started here just over three months ago.
03:44
which is great, and it's so nice to have you here.
03:46
And we are throwing a whole bunch of events now, thanks to you.
03:50
Just launched a book as well, which Danielle's taking on the road.
03:54
Can you tell us a little bit about sort of the hiring process and maybe drop a tip or two around someone who's looking to start here at rocketspark?
04:04
Yeah, it was a really comprehensive hiring process, so quite a few stages.
04:08
But that really helped me to get to understand Rocketspark a bit better, which was really, good in terms of understanding whether it was the right fit for me as well.
04:18
for tips, I'd just say try and be creative.
04:21
I think that's, a really great way to show you what you do, your strengths, and, just sort of be honest and throw things out there.
04:31
Amazing.
04:32
And what are you most looking forward to in the next six months?
04:36
we've got a really cool, packed agenda.
04:38
So looking forward to getting on the road.
04:40
I think everybody I've met so far has just been amazing.
04:44
So really looking forward to meeting more designers and, just doing some more cool events.
04:49
What are you enjoying about working here?
04:52
there's so many things to enjoy.
04:53
I think the team is absolutely great, really enjoying working with the people.
04:58
But I think what's really fun is that I think a lot of companies say that there's a culture of experimentation, but I think this is the first time where I've really felt that.
05:10
And you get the opportunity to be creative and test some cool new ideas out.
05:15
And just quickly, what do you do in your spare time?
05:19
my spare time.
05:20
I write children's books.
05:22
That's my, fun place.
05:23
Love being outdoors as well, so hiking and, spend a lot of time on my lifestyle block.
05:30
Nice one.
05:31
Thanks, Danielle.
05:32
That's it.
05:32
That's the hot seat.
05:33
Thank you.
05:35
One take wonder, one take boom.
05:37
Tyron, welcome.
05:40
Can, you tell us who you are and what you do here at Rocketspark?
05:44
Thanks, Paul.
05:45
What a privilege to sit in the hot seat.
05:47
yes, I'm Tyron Noble.
05:48
I'm, part of the marketing team here at Rocketspark.
05:51
Been here for five and a half years and I am the graphic designer.
05:55
And what does an average day look like for you?
05:58
Like, what did you do this morning?
06:00
Geez, every day is quite varied.
06:02
yeah, my job description says graphic designer, but, that means a lot of things.
06:06
So this morning I filmed a video including a pie and a flat, white for a tradie video, which is for a new product release.
06:14
but primarily my job is to, create the visual assets, that the marketing team output.
06:22
And what are you most excited about in the next six months?
06:25
Next six months, I'm most excited about probably all the community stuff we've got going on.
06:30
We've done this stuff in the past, but we're sort of bringing it back to life again and I think it's really exciting and, there's big potential.
06:37
And what's it like to work in the marketing team?
06:41
What's your manager like?
06:45
Manager's question now.
06:46
marketing team's great.
06:48
we just have a great vibe.
06:50
we have good fun, great conversations.
06:53
A lot of conversations about food.
06:55
yeah, really enjoy the team culture we've got.
06:58
Nice one.
07:00
And what do you like to do in your spare time?
07:03
in my spare time, I like to spend time outdoors.
07:07
whether that includes, hiking or walking or mountain biking.
07:11
recently got back into dirt bike riding, but anything outdoors and diy.
07:16
I've heard.
07:17
Nice.
07:17
Alright, thanks, Tyron Appreciate your time on the hot seat today and great answers.
