Set up + brand your GitHub as a marketer

Hi guys.

in honor of my GitHub account being restored after being suspended, I am gonna show you how I personalized my GitHub homepage, if you will.

And I think this is relevant for everyone, but especially marketers who, use GitHub.

So the first thing is, I set a little description here that you can just edit in here.

I think it's nice to give people a quick overview of what you do.

Obviously, if you haven't linked your social profiles, I think that's worth it, just to see you're not this, like, anon.

Then I obviously added a photo and also added a status.

"I am not currently surfing, but I'm mostly gone surfing." Then I created a special repository.

You could just ask Claude to make this, so then the markdown file for this can be used as a block on your homepage.

And the way you do this is you go to your special repository, once that's published, and on the right side here, you'll see you can edit this README.

and before this was published, you could, say, add it as a block to your welcome screen, let's say.

So in here, I've just added who I am and where I work, obviously.

I also took the opportunity to link a bunch of stuff.

In this case, I've linked my best performing YouTube video.

I also linked directly to my repositories, just, sharing the skills that I've made there, and then also telling people about my personal projects and the stuff I'm working on, as well as linked to my Substack, where I don't think I've written in over a year, but whatever.

I think it's nice to occasionally update what you're working on, your projects.

And then I've also added, "Ask me about these things." "Why Loom sucks." You can just generate this with Claude, just don't make it sound AI.

And then I've added my dog here as a banner, which I was making in, Figma.

I'm gonna finish the banner soon, but I just wanted to show you that.

You can customize your pins, your favorite repositories, or the ones that have the most stars.

Before I leave you, I wanna show you that I also, put quite the effort into how each repository looks.

I think, again, if you're in marketing, this is a good landing page, if you will.

here I just asked Claude to generate these images for me.

sometimes I'll also add GIFs.

In this case, I added a GIF, or videos, whatever.

So yeah, there's a lot to do to make your GitHub look prettier.
