Claude vs ChatGPT In-App Browsers

to do a demo of the new In App browser in Claude in the desktop app.

And I'm, also going to do a demo of the In App browser in the Codex app, which is now called the ChatGPT app.

We'll take a quick look at that app as well, when we get into it.

But I wanted to compare both of them, like the In App browsers, but also just show the new functionality of like how a, how good AI, is at using these In App, browsers inside of both Claude and Chat GPT.

So the goal here is to give it a prompt, the same prompt for both, and just watch it, use it and see how well it works and what it's able to do.

So first off, I'm going to start here in Claude, but I am going to drop this prompt in and then we'll take a look at it.

So I'm just using Opus 4.8 on extra effort level.

So, I'm just saying using your In App browser.

So I'm telling it to use it, we'll see if it can actually open it itself or if I have to.

But I say using your In App browser, open Wingstop's latest 10K and pull the 2024 and 2025 information.

And we can look at that when we get into actual, testing.

But it's pulling a bunch of information from the 10k and then I'm saying search to find the three closest public competitors of a similar size and pull those same metrics for those, and enter everything into a Google sheet that I have saved for this specific task.

So I'll send this and I'm also going to send the same thing in the Chat GBT app at about the same time so we can see which one's working a little more quickly.

So I'll send the same thing here.

I've tested something like this in the past with codecs, and it will actually open the In App browser itself.

I don't know if Claude will do that, but I want to see this actually open it and then we'll actually take a look at the new ChatGPT app for just a second while we're in here.

but I want to see if it will actually just open the browser for us.

It looks like it's actually still thinking.

Like I said, I don't know if it can open the In App browser on its own.

I mean, we're seeing the ugly version of this, but it doesn't actually open it on our screen, which is interesting.

I don't know if we can see like an icon or anything.

Looks like this didn't work for whatever reason.

We'll see if Claude can actually get it to work.

So Interestingly, in the ChatGPT app, you can actually see this little cursor.

Sometimes it's not actually where it's working.

I think it's just showing that it's working.

But you can see it's navigating pretty quickly through this.

Looks like this already got there as well.

So both of them are like successfully navigating through the SEC website, which is great to see.

I really think that for whatever reason, the, the way that Chat GPT has done this inside of their app is like so smooth and clean.

and I can open another one and tell it like, I just opened a new browser window.

Like, go look at that.

And it just like, it's good at navigating.

obviously the one in Claude literally just came out like a couple of Hours ago.

So I don't know how good this one is yet, but, I mean, so far it seems like it's working.

So ChatGPT is already now on a different competitor, I don't know if it's actually like storing the numbers somewhere in the back, waiting until we get to the point where, it needs to log into Google.

But, I mean, you can see it navigating and everything.

Looks like this one's still, still on Wingstop.

So it's significantly slower.

So this is another thing that I was going to say is, there are.

Let me actually go back to the Chat GPT app.

So, I covered this in, in my newsletter this week.

But the Chat GBT app, app, it was previously the Codex app.

Now they've combined it, it's just the Chat GPT app.

they merged everything together and they made some updates.

in this ChatGPT app to make it much faster with, computer use and browser use.

So you can see here how fast it's going compared to Claude, which is seemingly just now going to the next competitor.

and it's like really good at using the browser now.

And I haven't tested computer use too much yet, but it's supposed to be much faster for computer use as well.

So part of the, part of the, like, improvement here is also the fact that GPT 5.6 is available now inside the app too.

So that's probably a little bit of this.

But, yeah, we'll see.

It looks like it's pulling Shake Shack now.

So it looks like both have like ignored the Google Sheets piece first.

So hopefully they're just saving these numbers the.

There's like another file it can access later.

and then we'll see what happens when we get to the point where it needs to drop these into a Google Sheet.

This is a fun demo because I'm doing literally nothing.

I'm just watching.

But hopefully you can see like, I mean, I know this is a weird example in that I'm just having it pull numbers from a 10K.

But you could easily open up the in app browser for forms.

You could do.

I mean like even like work forms, personal forms, anything that's like not a connector in Chat GPT or Claude.

This is suddenly a pretty viable option to actually still use the data from those places.

In most cases, it's slower than a human would do this probably.

So maybe in total it might actually not be, that much slower, if at all.

But, you know, just like navigating to the specific items and everything.

I mean, obviously I would have frozen the rows way faster.

I do think this is just like, crazy to watch though.

it seems to have caught up a little bit with the Google sheets, but, No, No, No.

So this is, I'm learning a very important lesson, which is don't do things in the same sheet.

just should have created two different, Google sheets for this test.

One for Claude one for chat GPT.

I suspect this is also burning my usage pretty fat.

Like, that's the other thing I didn't mention is obviously using a browser like this requires significantly more, usage.

So, and thinking so like, just be aware that if you go down this route, like, ideally I would probably just use the Google connector for the Google Sheet piece or, the API.

But I wanted to do this as a test.

I think we're seeing that it can edit a Google Sheet and create charts and stuff, which is cool.

But yeah, I think that could have saved, me a lot of usage.

Obviously.

mean, this one is actually taking a long time on the formatting side of things.

It looks like it did a lot of it initially and then it took a really long time after that to like create those other tabs and the charts and stuff.

Okay, so I do want to check like a few things here.

I'm telling it to like, open a new tab in, the in app browser for each of the 10Ks.

So we'll see if it can do this.

I would assume it can.

Don't know why I wouldn't be able to.

I might honestly give up on Claude.

It's not the end of the world because you could use your Google connector or the API to push stuff in here.

But it's like concerning and noticeable that it, it was super easy for Chat GPT to put that stuff in there and Claude is really struggling.

I don't even know what this is.

So I'm gonna stop.

This is like, this is just a waste at this point.

So I just wanted to give me these two numbers to see if it actually pulled the numbers correctly.

I guess I won't check everything, but if it failed to pull the numbers correctly, that's like a.

I mean that's obviously a huge downside.

Not being able to fill in a Google sheet is one thing.

Navigating to the places and pulling them incorrectly would be pretty bad.

obviously not going to check all of them, but failure on the Google Sheets side.

Still really cool that they added an in app browser.

I like this a lot.

this is going to open a lot of use cases.

I think the Chat GPT and app browser is awesome.

I'm pretty pumped for the updates that they've made.

Overall, I think it's still a pretty steep learning curve in the Chat GPT app.

It's just not as easy to use as cowork right now.

But yeah, that was pretty much what I wanted to cover as part of this test at least to compare the in app browser.

So hopefully this was helpful and cool.

I thought it was pretty fun to actually watch them work.
