Product Update July 2026

Hey, everyone.

Today is a beautiful day in Amsterdam, The update has, a lot, so skip ahead to the sections that you wanna watch, Okay, so first up, we have added a new feature we're calling Auto Canvas.

Now, what this does is it basically automatically figures out the size of the canvas for you.

So before, we just had fixed canvas sizes, like sixteen by nine or nine by sixteen or one by one, and the Auto Canvas looks at the size of your screen recording and the layout that you're using and then figures out what is the right size of canvas for that combination.

this is really cool because, it means you can get a, a much cleaner look to the overall video without needing to mess around with what you record in the first place, the the big thing that this opens up, which people have been asking about for years, is removing the background completely.

and so you can do that now by selecting one of the full screen layouts, and then the canvas will perfectly wrap to whatever the size of your screen recording was.

Next, we've got the new timeline.

if you've been editing this week, then you probably will have noticed that the cut timeline looks a little bit different.

The core visual is quite different, and the way that it works is quite different.

we're still, I suppose, working on this.

There's some improvements we wanna make, but, there are so many huge updates, improvements compared to the way that this used to work, that we thought it didn't make sense to just, like, keep working on this, it's faster.

we've moved to a whole new way of, like, actually rendering the, the timeline.

it's a lot more responsive.

It feels way snappier.

it has a higher resolution waveform, so you can see more detail, It's got timestamps so you know where you are exactly, at, at every point in your video.

it's got a bunch of other nice little ergonomic features that makes cutting parts and trimming parts, easier.

And, it's bigger.

So if you're working on, like, a, a long video and you're spending a lot of time on the timeline, this is just gonna feel a lot nicer the other thing is that, this is just the cut timeline.

If you use all the other timelines, those all still look the same.

we are gonna roll out the same core, like, redesign and improvements, to all those other timelines.

That's just gonna take, a little bit more time.

Okay, so next is the Windows app.

And, if you've been using the Windows app a lot, you will have seen, a bunch of updates, a bunch of version updates over the past couple weeks.

Within those version updates, there have been some big, big, big improvements.

the first is pausing.

So now while you're recording, you can hit pause, collect your thoughts, remember what you were gonna say, sneeze, whatever you want, and then hit resume, and then it'll carry on with the, the recording.

So that makes recording, much nicer, the next thing is auto zoom support.

this was only available with our native macOS recorder.

Now, it works with our Windows recorder, so all Windows users can jump into the editor after they've recorded, hit auto zoom, and then you get a bunch of nice zoom effects added to your video, automatically.

The final big update to the Windows app, which, just went live this morning, is speaker notes.

you can open up the speaker notes, and you can write in your speaker notes, or you can write in a script.

then you can push play, and you can read the script like a teleprompter.

and the cool thing about this is that it's completely invisible, doesn't show up in any of your recordings.

you can read your script, and no one will know.

Then we've got the Chrome extension, and it's been a long time since we sent a newsletter with some Chrome extension updates.

but we found some time to, to ship a bunch of Chrome extension updates.

The, the main ones are that you can now, use virtual backgrounds, so you can blur your, behind your camera.

you can also use just, like, a full-on image or something, as your virtual background.

and, you can upload your own as well.

The other thing is there's a new setting where you can disable the countdown.

we have also added, picture-in-picture recording or being able to see yourself while you record.

And this is really cool because, you can preview your camera while you're doing a screen recording and control the recording, without that showing up in, within your, your video.

Then we've got a couple updates to how you can organize your videos.

So the main way to organize videos in Tella is with playlists.

and the way you add a video to a playlist is you click on the video, you say Manage Playlists, and you put it in the playlist that you want.

that can get a little bit cumbersome when, you've got to do it a lot.

And so, from today, you can now just drag and drop videos into playlists.

you can do this one by one, or you can just like select a whole bunch, and then you can move that into, a playlist.

and then the real new thing is we've added a new way to organize entirely.

So we've added a tags feature.

and so you can add tags to your videos, for whatever you want.

It could be like workflow status, like work in progress, or draft, or done.

or it could just be-- you could just be tagging the, what's in the, the, the, to do with the contents of the video.

you can do whatever you want with it, but it gives you this other dimension to organize your, your videos, and your playlists.

So you should try that one out too.

And then to wrap up, we've got, a new, part of the website for skills.

So, if you've been following our, ex- accountant YouTube for a while, you would've seen Louise publishing a bunch of cool, video editing skills that you can use with Claude or Codex to edit videos from, edit videos with your agents.

we've collected, a few of these together, put them into a directory, and, Louise has got a couple other skills in the works that we're gonna add to the directory, and, we're gonna be grabbing some skills from from customers and, they'll all live in this, skills directory on the website that you can then, reference we'll be also, making some skills purpose-built for Tella's MCP, which we launched, the edit- edit MCP, which we launched a little while ago.

that is everything.
