ScoreApp has a brilliant idea buried under a messy experience

Alright guys, welcome to another UX teardown.

This time we're going to take a look at ScoreApp.

So I've just come across this one recently, These guys help you build scorecards as marketing funnels so you can build out landing pages, quizzes, etc.

Etc.

So the plan is to sign up for the product, go through the onboarding, hopefully get into the product sooner rather than later, experience and value.

and then as we go I will just share my thoughts on the UX and the overall design of the product.

Alright, so without further ado, click get started for free.

All right, so I think we're off to a good start here.

I really like the sign up page.

We've got lots of social proof on here.

so it says join 151,000 users worldwide and we got some profiles of popular figures.

Just makes it feel a lot more real.

And then we've also got a testimonial at the bottom here as well which I think does a really good job of just reinforcing the value of a product like this.

although in some ways I think because the way the testimonial has been designed, my eye is drawn to that rather than filling in the form and creating the account.

So I think a few tweaks on the visual hierarchy here but generally speaking it's a nice sign up page.

So we've got three really simple forms here to create the account name, email and password.

Or we can just sign up with Google to make things a lot easier.

Not really sure why they ask for user's name at this point.

I think they'd probably be better off just sticking to email and password.

Anyway, for the purpose of this I'm going to sign up with Google because then we can get into the product and then hopefully start building out our first scorecard.

okay, so I've gone through that process.

Now it looks like we're at the beginning of the onboarding Now I've got to be honest from a design perspective.

This first step feels quite underwhelming.

I'm all for keeping things clean, but this feels very, very stripped back.

There is a hint of a progress bar that sits at the top to give me an indication of how long this onboarding might take.

it just feels like they could have made better use of this space to make this more engaging and to help build momentum as we're going through this process.

As I said, I don't really know how long this process is.

Hopefully we can whiz through this, get into the product.

So it looks like we're done answering questions now.

that started to feel more like an interrogation, if I'm honest.

And I have no idea whether they're going to use my answers to those questions to personalize the experience.

And now that we've gone through that process, it looks like, we've been presented with a invite to join one of their live score onboarding sessions.

And you don't see this too often.

So they talk about how we'll learn Everything we need to build, optimize and scale Score app funnels.

I think this is quite intriguing, to be honest.

I like the fact, we've got more social proof and messages from others who have enjoyed joining these live sessions.

So people are clearly getting some value from them.

for the purpose of this though, I think we're going to click not now and I'm ready to get started.

Okay, so first impressions are, this looks good.

We've been taken straight to the scorecard page.

Although I wonder whether we could have created a scorecard as part of that onboarding process to begin with.

But this doesn't feel too overwhelming or intimidating.

And then if we get stuck, it looks like there's some useful resources over here on the right.

So, so we've got a Getting Started with Score app that we can watch.

We've also got a course where we can learn the basics.

we've got access to a webinar and then we've got a lead generation toolkit as well.

So I like the fact that they're surfacing a lot of these helpful resources early on underneath here.

And the first thing that caught my eye is the recommended templates that you see below.

I'm not quite sure where they're getting the recommendations from.

these could just be random templates rather than recommended because I have no idea what they're basing the recommendations on.

Anyway, I'm going to go through the process of creating, our first scorecard.

Okay, so we're taken into a full screen experience.

I like this.

It helps me focus on the task in hand.

Here we've got an option top right to close out if we've made a mistake.

and we're going to create a scorecard either from scratch.

We've got an option to pick a template or use the AI builder.

So there's some nice options here.

we've got some illustrations as well, which just bring each one of these to life a little bit more.

So for the purpose of this, I'm going to use the AI builder.

Let's try that one out.

Okay, so we're all pretty familiar with this chat interface.

We've got this very subtle gradient that's moving in the background, We've got some, example prompts underneath which presumably we can click.

I'm a product designer.

Let's create a quick quiz for SaaS founders to understand whether they're ready to invest in UX design.

It's a small thing, but for whatever reason there doesn't appear to be a select state around this form.

Anyway, let's click send.

Okay, so it's come back to me really quickly here and it's asked me to give it a little bit more detail.

So what's the main investment decision If I need more, I can click here, although that text is very faint and quite difficult to read.

And then we've obviously got the thumbs up and thumbs down if we want to give them feedback on the suggestion they've offered.

So this is one of the things I get asked quite a bit then.

So whether they should hire a UX designer now or just wait another three to six months.

We'll use that one for this.

okay, so this is really interesting.

It's now asking me if we'd like to match the design of the scorecard with my brand.

And instead of setting up colors and fonts and logos, I can share my website URL and it's going to pull through what it can, which is a really nice way of fast tracking this process.

so it's given me three concepts to choose from.

we've got the UX Investment Readiness Scorecard, we've got the SAS UX Growth Leaks assessment or we've got the which UX stage are you currently in?

So three really good options there.

it's also given me a summary which is nice.

However, it seems to have repeated those options for whatever reason So let's go with the first one.

Okay, so it's now drafted a set of strategic questions.

there's 15 of them and I've just been through them.

To be fair, they're all quite relevant.

So I think it's done a really good job of pulling those through.

and then although it's very subtle here on the right, it's given me an indication of what the scores Might be depending on the answers to the question.

So that's quite clever.

I'm happy with that.

Let's build out the scorecard then.

but it was keeping me updated on what was happening as it was working it all out.

Okay, so it's not until you start getting into the builder you begin to realize how comprehensive this tool is.

There's an infinite number of options, settings, integrations.

So I'm glad we went through the AI in this case.

I mean, obviously we left AI to its own devices a little bit here.

God, it's very text heavy, isn't it?

It just feels like it's throwing in a load of keywords down here.

Imagery is obviously completely irrelevant, but But it has pulled through the purple color.

Okay, so I think this is it.

I mean, in fairness, look, it's pulled through my logo.

it's pulled through the purple.

The design of the scorecard and the questions themselves obviously need to be optimized a little bit more, but I think we have got to a point where we've reached some value from this thing.

So, I think the UX and that first use experience is a little hit and miss.

Although I appreciate it's not one of those products, that takes a couple of minutes to get set up and get started.

But I do think, there's, there's some room for improvement here, for sure.
