Hello and welcome to my free training on the three secrets to documenting editorial weddings so you can easily attract luxury clients this year.
00:07
Let's dive in.
00:08
So first we'll talk about what an editorial wedding is.
00:11
An editorial wedding is weddings that are photographed in a way that's considered magazine worthy.
00:16
So what does that mean?
00:17
It's images that illustrate how great the wedding was from The story of the wedding and placing it in the best light possible.
00:24
And that's exactly what we're going to be talking about in today's training.
00:28
If we haven't met, I'm Laura Rochelle.
00:30
In this class, I'm going to show you the three steps to make your wedding work look cinematic, editorial, and unmistakably, yours.
00:36
So you can charge more and stop relying on good venues or the perfect light.
00:41
Just like Patricio, who said this course has been helpful for all the recent weddings I have done from the mindset, composition, the inspo, watching films, creating story, I'm still learning and enjoying the process of creating photos.
00:54
And like Mikayla, who said this course has been so incredibly helpful for me.
00:58
I've wanted to enhance my shooting style to a more artistic editorial perspective for a while now.
01:03
And this course has given me the tools to actually do it.
01:06
Laura has provided so much knowledge that has helped change the way I think when I shoot.
01:11
So let me know which one of these sounds like you.
01:15
You want to finally elevate your images with a luxe portfolio.
01:19
Maybe you feel like you're stuck wanting to create those editorial images, but you have no idea where to start or what to do first.
01:25
Or you've tried using flash but got overwhelmed.
01:28
You've tried using facial light but it didn't work.
01:30
And so you said, forget it, scrap the whole plan or put your flash in TT mode and wing it with every wedding.
01:36
You wish you could expertly capture the moment.
01:39
You know how to pose, but don't have the understanding of how to compose your images with intention and direct clients so they can unfold naturally.
01:47
Today, you're going to learn how to simply elevate your images so you can attract those high paying clients.
01:53
So secret number one, you need to understand all types of lighting.
01:59
Secret number two, you need to master the art of directing clients.
02:03
Secret number three, you need to create storytelling images.
02:08
How I figured this out.
02:09
Here's my story of how I started exactly where you were 10 years ago.
02:14
So I went from electric greens, props and posed photos.
02:19
Okay, Everybody's got to start somewhere.
02:21
Am I right?
02:22
2014, electric greens, props and Posed photos galore.
02:27
I had no idea how to use flash.
02:29
I said I was a natural light photographer, and I only worked on overcast days because I was actually terrified of the sun.
02:38
Do you know how hard it is to make your clients align their engagement session or their wedding day according to natural light?
02:46
Overcast.
02:46
Nearly impossible.
02:47
And that can explain why a lot of these images look super flat.
02:51
I use Pinterest to get my posing tips, and as you can see, they were stiff.
02:55
Not to mention the props, y'.
02:58
All, the props.
02:59
Can we have a moment for the frame in a frame?
03:01
What is this?
03:02
And, it's like a glorified prom pose.
03:05
And he's not even touching her.
03:06
He's, like, glancing at her like they're not even together, but they are together.
03:10
And this was Pinterest rage.
03:13
I could go on and on.
03:14
I could do a tangent about the save the date wooden sign with the chalkboard, but we're not even gonna do it.
03:21
And this one, he brought a Sharpie just to write on the golf ball their initials.
03:27
But here's the thing.
03:28
I had the perfect shot list, and I was afraid to miss the curated moment.
03:32
as mother in laws were constantly breathing down my neck.
03:36
Has anybody else been there?
03:39
So I scrapped it.
03:40
I decided, oh, my gosh, what are you even creating?
03:42
You're not a perfectionist.
03:43
You're laid back.
03:45
So I took a huge left turn and only created laid back images.
03:50
So as a result, I learned how to document the editorial moment.
03:53
And when I tell you this changed everything for me.
03:57
It changed most things for me.
03:59
So then it all clicked.
04:00
Okay.
04:00
Documenting the moment was the answer.
04:02
I was creating unique images tailored to every single couple.
04:05
And my name spread like wildfire among my brides and their friends.
04:10
But something was still missing because I still wasn't proud of my work.
04:15
I couldn't light a reception even if I tried.
04:17
I had no knowledge and no control over the images I created.
04:21
It all depended on the venue, which still made me feel like a novice.
04:25
I knew what I wanted to create.
04:27
I just had no idea how on earth I was gonna get there.
04:31
Photographers weren't sharing their secrets back then, and I felt more lost and confused than ever before.
04:37
But the photographers that, were sharing their tips and tricks were older than my dad and suggested having seven plus light setups, which.
04:45
Hello, I'm five two.
04:46
I could never carry all that equipment by myself, so.
04:49
So I had a choice.
04:50
Keep documenting clients and hoping for the best lighting situation.
04:53
Fingers crossed.
04:54
Or learn how to use all types of lighting.
04:56
From on camera flash to off camera flash.
04:59
Bing.
05:00
After years of trial and error, I finally mastered the editorial lighting formula.
05:04
No, really, it's simple, it's foolproof and it's super easy.
05:08
Fast forward to finally creating the studio 54 images that I have always dreamed of.
05:14
And if you don't know what it is, literally look up Studio 54 and you'll find all the images that celebrities took in black and white and flash at night.
05:22
Because of this, I was able to double and even triple my prices and still book clients easily because I positioned my work as a professional brand with consistent yet creative work that served my business for years.
05:34
This also gave me room to create magazine worthy images and I was able to play with light and create magic time and time again.
05:42
So as a result, publications and editors reached out to me to feature my work.
05:46
I was able to position my work as a professional with images that served all lighting situations and tell a story, aka editorial images.
05:56
So now I am a 20 plus published photographer.
06:00
I had been featured in physical magazines and online publications.
06:04
I was able to charge five figures for iconic events capturing laid back luxury weddings.
06:10
And back then I had no idea that could be done because I thought luxury weddings were only meticulous, detailed and super perfect.
06:18
Needless to say, it can be done.
06:21
Courtney says, I don't think I'll ever be able to thank you enough for your course.
06:24
I knew what I wanted my photos to be.
06:26
I just didn't know how to get there.
06:29
Imagine what it would feel like to position your images and your brand as the professional storytelling photographer.
06:36
Have to raise your prices because of demand and your images are what the client is looking for.
06:41
And not looking to the industry for inspiration, but looking elsewhere to create unique images that stand out.
06:48
Imagine walking into any scene of the day and understanding how to direct the couple with light and ease.
06:54
And having the confidence you need to take your images to the next level.
06:58
You're probably thinking, oh that's great.
07:00
Cool for you Alora.
07:01
But how do I start?
07:03
Step number one, you need to understand lighting.
07:07
Lighting is the secret key to photography.
07:10
Without lighting, there is essentially no photograph.
07:13
It tells the eye where to look and it sets the scene.
07:17
Even in this picture right here, where did your eye go?
07:20
Straight to whatever is being lit.
07:22
It's all about using precise positioning and how to use lighting to set the tone and the mood of a photograph.
07:28
Here are some examples.
07:29
We have off camera flash in the corner.
07:32
We have ambient lighting.
07:34
We have off camera and on camera flash.
07:36
We have flash drag.
07:38
We have off camera and then we have on camera with two off camera flashes on each side.
07:44
So the biggest mistake when it comes to lighting is most photographers just shoot and pray and say, I'll fix it in lightroom.
07:50
Later they put their flash on TTL and pray it's enough without understanding how to light their subjects properly.
07:57
And it ends up looking sloppy.
08:00
That's why we give you over 10 examples of real lighting situations that you can master easily, whether it's natural or artificial lighting.
08:08
Step two is master directing your clients.
08:12
You need to master the art of directing your clients.
08:14
Directing is simply guiding the process to go as smoothly as possible.
08:18
It's not about giving ABC instruction and making them look uncomfortable, having them jump each other's backs or do things that don't apply to their personality.
08:26
It's about warming up clients so they can unfold naturally in front of the camera.
08:30
And here's some examples of what simple direction can do with an easy prompt.
08:35
Now the biggest mistake when photographers pose their clients, giving them specific poses may or may not align with them as a couple, which makes them feel, eh, along with you not liking your images or even worse, not giving them direction at all.
08:48
And therefore not getting those editorial images that you're obsessed with and dying to create.
08:54
That's why we have an entire module on how to direct couples with ease and so many universal prompts that will work with any client.
09:01
So you can do this quickly as well as a cinematic editorial.
09:05
A to Z, full wedding day walkthrough.
09:08
And here are some examples of student work because you're probably thinking, oh my gosh, can I do this?
09:13
Yes, you can.
09:14
And they did it in 30 days or less by their next session.
09:18
It is possible and it is easier than you think.
09:21
And here's some other examples of proper framing, lighting and of course using my favorite mirrors and storytelling.
09:29
Step number three is storytelling images.
09:31
You need to create storytelling images because storytelling is interpreted in many different ways.
09:36
But it's also how you use an image to not only show what it is, but interpret something much deeper.
09:42
And what do they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
09:45
We want the same for you and your images especially.
09:48
Especially because you are capturing images that are gonna stand the test of time.
09:52
And it's one of the most special moments of a person's life.
09:56
It's all about pre framing your work with intention and purpose.
10:00
This is your secret weapon to taking your work to the next level.
10:04
And here's some example of storytelling images, images that I don't have to Explain.
10:09
But if I did, you'd probably appreciate all the more.
10:12
That is the beauty of images that tell their own story and that are framed in a way that really help you anticipate the moment and you feel like you're invited in their story as well.
10:23
The biggest mistake that comes to storytelling is just capturing these must have wedding day images without really connecting with the client's story or just being inspired by the industry.
10:34
This is the missing piece to make your work really stand out as a cinematic wedding photographer.
10:39
But also tailor every single session to each client being able to tell their individual unique story.
10:47
That alone is a gift.
10:48
That's why we give you a step by step walkthrough on how to master the art of storytelling inspired by cinematography.
10:55
So you don't run into the same problem and you don't replicate the exact same images for every single couple picture.
11:03
Your work going from this to this.
11:07
And this is an example of one of our students Grids before she joined Lab 35.
11:12
All of these steps come together to help you master the art of editorial images, lighting, direction and storytelling images.
11:20
You can't have one without the other.
11:22
If you want it to be editorial, you have to have all the pieces because what do we say an editorial image is intentional imagery that tells a story and using light to help tell the story.
11:35
Lindsay says, I bought the course last week and I wanted to start listening before my wedding.
11:39
And I could literally cry with how happy I am.
11:41
I knew I wanted to shift my shooting style.
11:43
I just felt in a rut and stuck with where I was at and not really sure how to make the shift.
11:48
I'm literally so happy.
11:50
It tells the wedding day story so much better.
11:53
And I'm just really excited to see what this does for my business.
11:57
So you learned why you need to understand all types of lighting and how essential it is to a powerful image.
12:04
You learned the secret to master the art of directing and why it's important to make them comfortable.
12:09
You also learned why you need to create storytelling images and how it's the key of an editorial image.
12:15
This is why I created Lab 35.
12:20
Lab 35 is my signature course for wedding photographers who refuse to blend in.
12:25
It's designed to help you create luxury documentary meets editorial images by your next session without copying what everyone else is doing.
12:34
It's where you stop chasing inspiration and and start creating work that actually reflects your eye and your couple's stories.
12:42

12:43

12:59

13:24

13:31

13:32

13:38

13:54
By the end of this course, you will be able to master any lighting situation that comes your way.
14:00
Be the unstoppable editorial force in the industry.
14:03
Be able to balance creativity with artful direction.
14:06
You'll finally have the clarity to create anything that you want, whenever you want.
14:11
And you'll leave with the confidence and the right mindset to create any image you want at any time.
14:17
All you have to do is watch a three module course in less than 30 days, which you can do.
14:22
Then you'll apply what you've learned to your next session or practice with a friend, a family member, been there, done that.
14:27
You can practice with inanimate objects as long as you put your practice in motion.
14:33
And then you master the art of the luxury portfolio just like that.
14:38
So here is module one, broken down in detail.
14:40
The art of storytelling.
14:42
You're going to learn how to stop shooting random pretty images and start shooting with intention the key elements of storytelling so your images actually make people feel something.
14:51
Style and composition.
14:52
Because composition is the silent flex that nobody teaches and we should always all know how to photograph with great composition.
15:00
Then lights, camera and action.
15:02
You're going to learn natural light and artificial light and what to use for each situation.
15:07
On camera flash that doesn't look like on camera flash or that does look like on camera flash.
15:13
More in the module.
15:14
And then a simplified OCF setups that don't require seven light stands.
15:18
I have one light stand set up and a two light stand setup so you can decide what style you want to evoke.
15:24
Module three Your artistic architecture.
15:27
This is where you're going to learn the story structure, the walkthrough of the entire wedding day from start to finish, the A to Z and then how to shoot for emotional black and white with intention, not just putting a preset on it because you feel like you have too many color images.
15:41
And you're going to learn how all of these work together with our Lab 35 method.
15:46
So here's a sneak peek at the Director's Diary, a special look behind the scenes walkthrough wedding series with me.
15:53
I'll be guiding you through the wedding day as well as showing you my OCF setup so you can see it in action.
15:58
And then I also have some post wedding day videos about what curating a portfolio looks like and then you have the magic of imperfect film.
16:05
I give you a step by step masterclass on all things film from and you'll understand what you need to get started and how they differ ease of use and quality with each format.
16:15
This is a masterclass within itself.
16:18
Then the curated Portfolio I'm actually giving you some bonus lessons from our Wedding Atelier program and you will learn how to curate and position your portfolio so that it attracts premium clients and also gets published.
16:31
Okay, so you will have a tried and true luxury portfolio strategy and not just picking your favorites.
16:37

17:21
Courtney says the sections are short, sweet and to the point, which is a big deal when you have six daughters in crippling adhd.
17:27
I have already practiced some of what I learned from module two and now that I have module three done, I've set up a few more style shoots to get more practice in.
17:35
Don't let three modules fool you.
17:37
This is a small course that packs a big punch.
17:41
Ali says whenever I needed inspiration I would go on Pinterest and look at Other photographers.
