The 3-Hour UX Job Search System Walkthrough

Hey everyone, Joseph here.

So thanks again for grabbing the 3 hours UX job search system.

I want to give you a quick walkthrough so that you know exactly how to use everything without feeling lost or overwhelmed.

It's Okay, so first one is going to save this page so you can come back to it and watch it again.

know folks kind of lose it.

So all you need to do is go to click on the link and then click on the duplicate and you will duplicate this into your own notion as well.

The second step is to start with the training.

and there is three key things.

so there is the gym network, the strategic outreach and the minimum valuable pitch or the Trojan Horse Doc.

start with this.

Go in order is designed to be watched in order as well.

Along the way take notes and apply one action at a time so that you can get things moving on.

Right.

most folks when they get started they kind of get overwhelmed.

Kind of give you a quick summary as well.

And like the key points of like why each of this is important is and it's going to be very different because you're not going to be focused working on your portfolio and that, that is not going to give you a lot of leverage and return your investment.

Those low ROI tasks.

Where I want to kind of encourage you to do is get first get clarity in terms of your dream network.

So basically there's this key concept in terms of why we are kind of going on this approach.

This is what I call the Hire and Seek Pyramid.

The thesis of this, I'll go deeper in the training but the thesis of this is that the way that hiring managers hire and the way that job seeker seeks are totally opposite.

Where for me as a hiring manager and hiring managers we look at is we go for the least costliest option, the least expensive option and the least riskiest or the most reliable option.

And typically this falls into groups of internal candidates and referrals.

And the last, the least reliable and the most costly for us is really job ads and and that's unfortunately where a lot of folks come in and that's where you can get a lot of low response rate, ghosting fake jobs, etc.

Okay.

And where we want to go is to tackle into the hidden job market where 60 to 70, 80% of jobs are available over there.

And our goal is to get you on the inside through the backdoor, through the team referrals and external referrals as well as through the side door straight directly to the decision makers, themselves.

And the first step is to build up your dream network, okay, which consists of your 10 dream companies and the 10 dream people in each company and the dream 100 list.

Okay.

So once you kind of do that, next one you want to go to is a strategic outreach.

So the strategic outreach, one of the core kind of frameworks and things that I kind of talk about is you're going to send a connection request.

And a lot of folks when they send a connection request is always going to be a level zero.

They don't send it all, they don't network at all.

There's a level zero.

The better one is, you know, each one is kind of slowly move from level one they don't send a personalized note.

Level two, they send a generalized copy and paste note.

Level three is you send a personalized note but with a big ask like can I get a referral?

Can I review my resume?

Can I, can you review my portfolio?

Can you, can I have a 30 minutes coffee chat with you?

All this and you send in the first message.

It's going to feel very transactional, very pushy, very off putting, because the written investment for the the other person doesn't seem fair.

Right.

So what we want to do is going to move to level four or level five.

primarily what we want to focus on is level four asking this or that question, asking a very small ask.

And I shared specific templates over here in the the strategic outreach training, what I call spear, this is where you're going to get at least 20 to 30% response rate.

Which means typical core reach messages that you get to someone is about 10%.

So 1 in 10 will reply.

If you send something with the spear framework you're going to get about 20 to 30%.

The highest ever my client ever receive is around 80, 85% of response rate.

So this is going to beat out your 1% response rate.

You get true job application.

This is actually retro responses from people in your dream companies as well.

So it's going to be very powerful.

And for each of this I have a custom GPT that you can help you to guide you along to create your first draft of be finding your dream company.

This one is pretty helpful.

It's going to accelerate that process.

So you don't even going to go through the training, just click on the GPT and it will guide you through.

Same with the connection, message as well.

Right.

The final One, this is really the kind of, I would say in a way like a silver bullet, like the magic sauce of this entire program, job search system is the minimum valuable pitch.

Right.

And what essentially means is that you know, after you have spoken to you know, two, three people in each of the drink company, even one person is fine.

you need something to kind of share with them, to build up trust, to get them to advocate for you.

You can't just rely on the resume or your portfolio to do that because it's all showing password, especially if it's not from a relevant industry or the relevant company.

Right.

Or the relevant type problem to solve.

So this is where you want to kind of share then something that kind of portrays you as an asset, as a, as a problem solver, as a problem finder and someone that can really contribute to the team.

And this is where we got a minimum valuable pitch comes in.

Where is it can be a, 11 page symbols like that.

basically the thesis is you got a cover page.

You want to show how you align with the dream company and then share about a problem that you have found.

After speaking to the people that you have connected with over a 15 minutes coffee chat and typically after chatting with them you kind of discovered about one or two business priority and one of the two challenges that they are facing in the company or for the product or for the user.

And this is where you share on high level your ideas and your observations as well.

So idea 1, 2, 3 and then we deep dive into next slides.

One slide for each problem, one for opportunity one basically just adding screenshots of user reviews or your analysis over here and then your solution.

No wireframes required, no design requires.

Just screenshots of the existing app and kind of pointing out how you can be improved or just screenshots of your competitors, their competitors, application or best practices out there so they can kind of create conversation.

The whole point of this deck, in this whole approach is just to create conversation and start conversation as well.

So you're going to repeat this for the last two and then the final slide is going to share why you are good fit for this company.

Share one sentence of why you're relevant.

Ideally that will be relating back to your personal why, why are you interested in this industry, in this company, Especially after talking to two to three people from the company and also share the professional why, which is the top three case study or your resume bullets over here and link into your case study so that they can have a Better understanding of how you're a good fit for them.

Okay.

The goal is that, so that they can take this deck, you want to send it back to them and ask for feedback and thoughts and then they will share it.

But naturally what will happen is that the person in the dream company will find it so valuable that they will reshare it into the company, and with the hiring manager, the design team, and say, hey, I've spoken to this person over the weekend or last week and they had some really interesting ideas about how they can solve this problem that we are facing right now.

What do you guys think?

So what happens now here is instead of being a candidate of none, where you know, you're not really kind of known, especially if you are sampling through the front door of like hundreds of hundreds of applications competing, with the other applicants, where you may be about, you know, applicant 637, you are now a candidate of one, right?

Instead of candidate of none, you're candidate of one.

Because now you're the top of mind of the right people in the right company, especially with the hiring manager and the design team in it, which will then score you a chat or a referral into.

And you're kind of bypassing and hacking the interview process.

And this is how top performers, how top designers, how top job seekers are seeking for jobs, right?

They're not really seeking, they're proactively in a way hunting for it and looking for it.

Okay.

And this is how we are creating the opportunity here.

So this one is going to be super powerful for you.

What is super great is that, you know, I have created a GPT over here that helps to accelerate that process of you.

It's going to be well researched, well backed with all the codes and the user reviews, everything here.

What typically could take you, you know, a day or two or maybe you know, four to eight hours can be get done in under an hour or two hours, all that and you can translate into a Google Doc or into a Google Slide deck or PowerPoint slide deck and you get it done.

I also included examples here that you can check out as well.

Okay, so from here use the tools, use the templates and start seeing those results.

And in terms of the three hour weekly rhythm, what you want to kind of follow is something like this.

All you need is three focus hours.

Kind of you want to do the low return on investment or low leverage task of like mass applying, tailoring on that you can, I will just keep it very, very little to maybe 30 minutes of your week don't kind of over do it, because it's not going to get too far.

What you want to do is do something like this that is going to be more leveraged, more focused, more targeted.

Okay.

so what it looks like is you can have 90 minutes of connections just adding people into your dream network from your dream companies, sharing those messages to them.

So if you come across a job ad, there's an open road that is coming from your dream company, do the same.

That works as well.

And what you want to kind of translate into is have at least every week to have at least one or two conversations with people, actual coffee chats, quick calls.

Or you can be APD list sessions with the mentors or the people there and have conversations with them because this is where you really build that trust.

And then the last 60 minutes you're going to kind of use that to create your children, horse stack or your mvp.

yeah, and start showing, sharing, getting feedback from them and moving forward.

Nice thing is that each of this becomes an asset that you can put into your portfolio.

And I have clients who have done that and also gotten job offers through that as well because their portfolio now is very specific and targeted to the dream industry or the dream companies that they're applying for.

Okay, so I call this the creator 30.

So you do kind of follow and it's really depending on your pace, what you want to do, you can have different options to look at it.

You're going to kind of start shifting your, your perspective as well.
