How I Use AI as an Artist 🎨

Ciao, ciao.

today I want to quickly show you how I use AI as an artist.

And no, it's not what you think.

There's nothing that has to do with image generation and I think it can help you.

well I'm sharing it because I think it's super helpful regardless of where you are in your artistic journey.

Let me give you the quick of it.

I have now posted five videos where as part of this playlist called Best Line artists ever.

So it's a list of great line artists in history.

this is my studio view for you.

You should see it like this.

This one is the playlist Best line Artist ever.

And there's been lots of comments in these videos and these type of videos where I'm sharing my my favorite basically line artists they inside they invite people in commenting their own favorites because it's like hey, he hasn't talked about this one.

This one is this one is amazing.

it's in my top list.

Why, why is it not showing up in the top list of of this video?

And this is fantastic because these comments in these videos become a treasure trove of incredible artists.

The favorite artists of lots hundreds, hundreds of thousands of people who watch who watch this, this video, this resource that I put out there.

So I encourage you to go sift through the comments.

But it's hundreds of them.

It's loads.

So what I've done is I've tasked.

I spinned up an agent with Claude Claude co work.

I gave it access to my Chrome so that it could go and see the.

Load the videos in a window and go scroll down the comments and record all of the comments and put them all together with the notes that I had of great artists that I love and artists that I wanted to cover in my videos.

Put them all in a single personal website that I can filter through and I can see all the artists that everyone has mentioned all in one place.

That is really cool.

That is really cool because it would have taken me ages.

It would have been a job that probably would have never become priority and so I would have never made.

Managed to actually get to it and do it even though I always thought it was a great thing to do because that's Yeah those comments are a treasure trove really.

So what you're looking at here is a compi is a compiled list of all of the artists that either I wanted to cover that were named in the that were named in the comments that I did some research on or that I already featured in one of the videos and so featured this year.

So there's five videos so far in the playlist.

And so it says which videos it's featured on and this is if somebody commented it mention their name in the comments in which video it was mentioned the name.

And so like this I can filter by 177 that were named in the comments which is really cool.

And I can see a tally so a sum of overall how many people mentioned them separately.

And so now I know that Bernie Wrightson who was.

Yeah who was already in my wish list.

What is also the most the one that people want mention the most basically.

And this is for you a sneak peek behind the scenes of how I'm thinking about discovering new artists, covering new artists and making videos about new line artists to study.

Because I try to merge everything between my YouTube channel, interest of the people that I serve through YouTube, my own interests and my own artistic journey.

So it's all one and you can see the development of everything.

Kentaro Miura, you can expect stuff about, about him.

So all these top five Mignola is coming up in the next video already.

I'm very excited about him.

and I want to do one on Eliza Livanova but I haven't found a good angle and an interesting enough thing so I need to spend more time studying her work basically.

But these top five, you can for sure expect them relatively soon.

Relatively soon because I am quite slow at making videos.

But I'll do my best.

So yeah I wanted to show you that also make sure that if you do something similar you include a quick way to see their work.

So I click this and I have a say a Google search already set to art and images so that you can at a glance remind yourself of the style or discover the style.

Speaking of style, why do I do master studies and what are they for?

I created for myself drawing timer.

Like I'm sure you know I talk about it all the time.

I love it.

This is all always photographic references that we're studying here and that means that we get good at we can see it here in the practice balance we can get strategic about learning these categories, figures, faces, creatures, props or environments that basically cover everything through making our own decisions of where to place the lines from something that is very very complicated because it's real life is light reflecting on 3D objects in space.

That's what photography is.

So there is no Lines decided for us.

We need to make the decision of which lines represent that volume, that form.

So we get good at the fundamentals of form, basically by, well, everything in perspective, all of the fundamentals you can, you get good at them by doing, by, by doing these kind of exercises.

Timed drawing with photographic references.

That's the whole purpose of it and it works and it's fantastic.

But those are all decisions that kind of come up organically and you course correct, meaning that you don't like how this good this looks, the next time you're going to place the line differently to try and have a result that you like.

Okay, cool.

But what if you actually want to study the decisions of others?

That is what happens when we do master studies.

You don't take a photographic reference, you take a other drawing, someone else's drawing.

You take a Gustave Dore and you make the decision of you study for the decision of lighting.

How he, for him, for me, he is perfect to studying composition in values.

So, so how he decides to alternate black darkness and light chiaroscuro in Wow.

This was a, behind the scenes video to show you the AI thingy and now it's becoming a, much more.

Anyways, I can get geeky about this stuff.

I hope that it piques your interest.

In any case, the whole point being that when you're studying, when you're drawing from another drawing, you are basically learning the decisions that that other artist had made in choosing their lines to represent something that exists.

And it can go all the way down to not trying to be realistic, but rather trying to be so.

Dore is realistic but strategic.

So he tries to create the illusion of something that is real.

But the lighting maybe doesn't totally make sense.

It's just strategic such that you can see one thing first because there's more contrast and then the next and then the next.

Whereas the other side of the spectrum would be stylization where you can go and exaggerate the forms in specific ways to get an outcome that either you like or that creates some emotions or that emphasizes something about story.

You can go in so many directions.

That's why we love art.

If you're studying these decisions of others in order to discover the ones that you like the most, what you're doing essentially is you are practicing style.

And so I think since we don't have a good way to track it, I think that most of us should spend 90% of the time practicing form and Making our own decision and trial and error on our own decision of where to place the lines.

And so this is good, but it is.

When we stall, it is such a level up to start looking at what other people do for the same references for those same decisions and get inspired, try, try it out and get inspiration based on that.

Try maybe decisions that we would have never have tried spontaneously.

And so I think it needs an extra category.

I think I'm gonna add, six.

This pentagon is going to become an hexagon and it's going to be style.

And that means that you're gonna start seeing a style tag.

With, boards that are collections of my favorite drawings and artworks from specific artists.

I like to divide them in centuries.

So 1800, just like I've, done here, I also have them by centuries because I really like to get a sense of, within the context of the other artists of that century.

For example, Beardsley, went.

This guy went completely against the grain because it's the century that is dominated by people like Gustave Dore.

That is extreme realism in terms of the rendering.

Anyway, I'm getting giddicky again.

the whole point is that I'm thinking to add a style category.

And, the boards that I will be adding need to be older artists, artists that have died at least a hundred years ago or earlier.

because, yeah, I don't want to have any.

that's how it works for Creative Commons of, intellectual property.

so.

Although Pinterest doesn't seem to care that much because you can find stuff on Pinterest about everyone and you can create your own boards and use Drawing Timer for free with your own boards, like I do with Kim Jung Gi, etc.

But you will not find them there.

So, yeah, I just wanted to share what's on my mind.

what, I've worked on, how I use AI, how it's important, improving, my artistic journey.

And, I, will be discussing this more with how to add these artists, in Drawing Timer and how to study properly with the time, the rounds, the concept of style, with my.

Yeah, with my.

With my members while we are doing our live codes, that run now, it's.

They run every Wednesday, morning and afternoon.

And so, yeah, we get to draw together from a board that, of my choosing.

And we discuss some of the stuff from time to time.

So I'm going to bring up this topic up.

speaking of which, members, I've decided to cap to 100 people.

because now the Private Discord is getting quite a bit of of movement.

And it is the first time for me that I manage a community of this level of involvement.

And I do live calls like this.

So I want to make sure I always keep it such a nice vibe like it is right now.

So I've decided, yeah, to cap it to 100, which now there's 13 left.

So it was, was I think 16 last time I talked about it at the end of last week.

So yeah, I'd be welcoming you.

If you wanna, if you wanna join.

This is with.

In your drawing timer is the upgrade page.

I ask you, do you want to practice on your own or with me in a group?

If you choose with me in a group, then you get access to my private Discord and all of the cool features such as this.

Not many people know about this actually when you are in that tier.

Well this is the challenge.

Let's say I want to practice a board like when you're loading any board, also your boards by pasting manually the link, you will have this button here that nobody else has.

Make this session live.

When you do that before the session starts, you can share this link with anybody that has a Drawing Timer account, but even a free one, like doesn't matter and they can join in your session.

So now if somebody enters in the link that we had and a link that you can still copy by clicking here, then they will join into this session and see this same reference so that we can go and draw together.

It's quite fun.

So yeah, people arrange their times to draw together and jump on a call, to do their own sessions on their own boards.

They arrange it in in our private group in Discord, there's a channel for that and yeah, people jump on.

So it's not only drawing with me, you draw also with others.

I think it's very cool.

Enough rambling.

I hope you have a great day.

Ciao, ciao.
