Hey, I'm Simon, and today we are going to take a look at pipedrive.
00:06
We're going to take a look at the sign up process, the onboarding and then once we're in the product, hopefully we'll get a chance to take a look at the deal creation process as well.
00:20
So the first thing that strikes me here when we click try it for free on the, the pipedrive website is they're telling us we're going to get access to the product for free for 14 days.
00:33
So they're very clear and explicit about that.
00:36
We're also going to get full access which is great and we're not going to need to enter our credit card details at all which is even better.
00:45
So the barrier to entry here has been significantly reduced.
00:51
Also love the fact that there is an option to get into the product even quicker by using our Google or LinkedIn account.
01:00
Bridging users to sign up via social media just helps fast track that process even more.
01:07
There's only one form field here so I'd imagine would be in the product straight away.
01:12
Let's take a look.
01:13
we'll enter via LinkedIn.
01:18
So I'm going to sign up via LinkedIn here.
01:41
Okay, so we just got the usual permission requests here and they'd like to you know, they're very kind of clear and explicit.
01:53
Just going to allow.
01:59
Okay and now we're taken to a getting started screen.
02:05
So unfortunately it looks like the process isn't going to be as quick as we anticipated here.
02:12
They kind of sucked us in a little bit to begin with.
02:15
I assumed signing up for an account would be relatively quick and painless especially if we're using social accounts.
02:26
However, it looks like they've now broken the onboarding process down into three steps.
02:36
So we've got account about you and company.
02:39
So almost getting started here and you can see my web browser has pulled in the details from my other account here so I'm just going to remove those.
02:54
So let's name in here.
03:00
And choose a password.
03:20
So what I love about this password field is the fact that we can click short and hide.
03:26
We're not being asked to confirm our password, which is only going to slow the user down here.
03:34
And they're telling me explicitly that password needs to be at least eight characters.
03:42
They're giving us some instructions here on how we could make the password even stronger.
03:50
So it doesn't look like this is mandatory, but at least it's giving users pointers on how to create a better password to keep their account secure.
03:58
next they're asking me for a phone number.
04:02
they do suggest that this is going to be used to contact us if we need assistance.
04:10
whether that is the case or not, it's still somewhat intrusive.
04:15
I will put one in here.
04:22
and there's also an option here to add a promo code.
04:27
However, I'm not too convinced on timing of this.
04:31
because if I don't have one then I might be tempted to bounce, go somewhere else, try and find a promo code for pipedrive and if I do that I might not come back.
04:45
So that's interesting.
04:47
May, reconsider the approach there.
04:52
And then we've got the usual T's and C's and privacy at the bottom here.
04:57
So I'm just going to click continue and run the second step in the process.
05:02
Now one thing that has become apparent is I love the fact that teasing the product in the background here.
05:07
So whilst there are three steps for us to go through, they're doing a really good job here of trying to encourage me to complete this flow as quickly as possible so we can get into the project itself.
05:24
So looks like we need to share a little bit more information about myself before we can get to the final step here.
05:32
Let's get this completed as soon as possible.
05:39
Okay, so, and it also looks like that these fields are mandatory.
05:43
Right?
05:43
But I didn't know that until we clicked off them, so they might need to make that a little bit more clear.
06:00
Let's circle a rule.
06:04
Yep.
06:09
Used to CRM before for sales activities.
06:12
Hopefully they are going to use this information to personalize the experience when we get into the product.
06:18
Maybe signpost some relevant features or whatever it might be.
06:24
So we go, what do you want to do first?
06:25
Then let's go close sales faster.
06:28
Bit of a strange component they've used here because if there's only one option for the user to select and there isn't significant number of items in the list, then typically you'd see a radio button here.
06:43
instead we have some kind of selector, some kind of custom selector component here but it, I mean it does the job.
06:51
let's say close deals faster and click next.
06:56
Okay, now when you tell them a little bit more about our company here.
07:00
So we'll just fill this out as quickly as we can.
07:21
Might be nice to have a search on here just in case users are Struggling to find what they're looking for.
07:26
They could just click up here and search for what they need.
07:32
That might be a little bit quicker.
07:35
it's just going to be me again.
07:39
We've got this kind of custom select component here as well.
07:42
let's click next.
07:44
Okay.
07:44
Create new account.
07:46
so at least we're not left in the wilderness.
07:51
It's telling us what's going on which is awesome.
07:55
Keeping us informed.
07:57
Hopefully it shouldn't be too long now.
08:01
Awesome stuff.
08:01
So it looks like we're in we have a lot going on here.
08:07
So it's taken us straight to the deal page which is fair enough.
08:11
It's got a really nice first use state here which is telling us to add some deals to keep track of our sales at the top.
08:21
We've got a banner here that tells us how long we've got left in our free trial which is a nice little reminder and we can manage subscription here which probably takes us to settings and it's also popped out a getting started checklist.
08:39
So we've got some first steps down here which is really cool.
08:42
and I think that's going to really encourage users to get started much quicker.
08:48
they're not left in the lurch.
08:49
We have already completed the first step which is creating your account.
08:53
Next we're being asked to import data, add some users etc etc we've got some progress bar and some cute little animations and things here as we hover over so that works really well.
09:06
Another really interesting approach here by pipedrive is the fact that users can add some sample data.
09:14
So instead of having to import their own data then test out the product, it looks like we can add some sample data here just to take it for a spin.
09:28
So that's what I'm going to do.
09:30
Let's try this.
09:32
It just gives us a brief outline here of what's going to happen and how it will affect our account.
09:40
Let's try with sample data.
09:44
There we go.
09:45
I'm getting a nice confirmation message at the bottom here.
09:49
be nice if it told users how long that might take because if something takes 10, 15 seconds to load, users might think the product has crashed or it's frozen.
10:01
So we've got the sample data in now.
10:02
let's click away from this.
10:04
I really like the deals screen here.
10:07
It's the approach they've taken here.
10:11
works really well.
10:13
The Kanban view is nice, is a really cool way of like visualizing the sales process.
10:19
Obviously got different stages here, which I'm sure we can customize.
10:23
We have got access to the quick help, so if you need a little bit more guidance and things then that works really well.
10:31
Let's try creating our own deal.
10:33
Click on deal over here on the left which is a little bit unconventional.
10:37
but actually I think when you're navigating different areas of the product here, it's much more convenient for it to be over here than it is over here on the right hand side.
10:46
So they've just added the filter options over here on the right which I think works.
10:49
So if we click Deal, got a model here that is requesting some of the information that we'll need in order to add a new deal to the system here.
10:59
So I mean this is quite overwhelming.
11:01
it seems like there's quite a lot here certainly for a new user, someone who isn't maybe that familiar with the product.
11:09
I mean I'm not too sure which of these fields are mandatory.
11:13
Let's deal in here.
11:20
So as I'm typing in the contact name, pulling up other contacts that are already part of the contact list that's been pulled on, pulled in from the sample data that we added previously.
11:41
So that's nice, that's happening in real time.
11:43
So that's really cool.
11:45
And we can click on somebody and let's see if we can add an organization here.
11:50
Again I don't know if this is mandatory but we can add a new organization on the fly, change the currency, we can add a value here where they are in the sales process.
12:13
So this is fairly streamlined.
12:15
one thing I might be tempted to do here then is really just minimize the number of form fields that I think need to be entered in order to create a deal and have users fill those out first and then maybe have access to other custom fields.
12:31
But I do love the predictive auto suggest on the contact and an organization.
12:39
I think visually it looks a little bit a little bit bland.
12:42
so I think there's definitely a little bit more they can do there.
12:48
Let's let's click save.
12:50
Cool.
12:50
I think that's a wrap.
12:52
