Set up free uptime monitoring with Uptime Robot

If you have any kind of website, if you vibe coded a project, maybe it's a small application for internal uses or even externally for your clients automations, things that you need to have run like clockwork.

You wanna make sure that the tooling behind that automation or your website continues to work.

So if you look at some of these bigger companies, especially in AI or software companies, have something that shows you how often they go down, right?

What is their uptime?

The higher the uptime the better because it creates trust.

You may not realize this but it's very easy to set up and it's free.

The tool that I found and I'm using is called Uptime Robot and I've set up now about six watchers for websites and tooling and automations that I want to make sure continue to stay reliable.

And I'm going to show you exactly how to do that today.

So first you want to head over to UpTimeRobot.com and set up your account.

Now you can go through and manually, manually add a site.

It's very, very easy to do by clicking new and just typing in your website URL here on the URL to monitor.

So this is going to be the site it pings every so often to ensure that it's still running, it's still working and there are different ways that you can get alerted if it were to go down.

So notifications and alerts, you can set it to your email address, a text message, a voice call even or a mobile notification.

So you could download this app on your phone and it'll send you a text that looks something like this and it'll send you a notification that looks like this.

The default monitor interval is five minutes now you would need to upgrade to have it check even more often but I think for most of us five minutes is just fine and that's really it.

Then you just click Create Monitor and then you're going to have a list of items that you're currently monitoring as well as their uptime, their status, whether they're down over here on the right current status and what the status has been for the last 24 hours.

Now I set up a couple of automations that were already broken, I added the monitor it my overall uptime is actually very low but that'll smoothen out over time.

Now if you want the lazy way to do this.

You can literally just go into ChatGPT work or with Codex and say I need my website monitored use computer use.

Set it up for me.

Here's my website link, here's the automation.

You can watch it go through and click the new button, set up any notifications, ask you any questions if it's unsure about anything, and let's create that monitor for you.

This is a super easy way to ensure that your public presence stays available and live in case you have customers or prospects that are hitting your sites, they don't hit a dead end and then walk away without you even realizing it.

Hope this was helpful and I will see you in the next one.
