With the addition of Sewage Engine 7.1, Squarespace now has two different editors for the time being until they decide to face off a Classic Editor, you might be wondering how to tell the difference between the two.
00:17
So you know how to delete the box between the two because it is different.
00:22
So on Passive Editor, this is the one that you can see where it hovers.
00:29
Anytime you hover over an element, it highlights a lot of blue.
00:32
And there are these insert markers in between everything.
00:35
If you hover over that plus sign icon, that means you can add a block directly on top of this one, or here in this case, between these two, it literally adds a space and puts this new block you're adding right there in that instance spot.
00:52
So that's Classic Editor.
00:53
The difference is going to be up here in the top left corner.
00:56
That Upgrade button is asking you if you want to upgrade this section to Fluid Engine.
01:02
If you see that, that means you're using Classic Editor, because there's nothing to upgrade to if you're using Fluid Engine already.
01:10
So what I've done here is I've duplicated this section and I've switched it to Fluid Engine so you can see the difference.
01:16
It still highlights the section, but you no longer have certain markers maybe you want to be highlighting with.
01:24
So you can see the difference between that.
01:26
That's where your blocks.
01:27
On Fluid Engine, you actually don't add blocks within the content.
01:31
You always add them from the Add Block button, which is hovering in the top left hand corner of your section.
01:37
When you upgrade sections of Fluid Engine, it is section by section per page.
01:43
So like, if I were to click Upgrade here, it would be this section, not the entire page and not the entire site.
01:52
So from here you add blocks that way.
01:54
And going back to the whole purpose of this was to talk about how to actually remove content.
02:00
You used to be able to click and drag, which as you can see, that no longer works in the newer version of Classic Editor.
02:08
So we're back down to either selecting the block and then choosing the Trashcan icon, or hitting Remove on your keyboard, which is the delete key work.
02:18
Similarly, in the Squarespace app, if you want to delete them in a slightly simpler way, you can actually click the image and drag it down.
02:28
And you'll notice that there is a Now, because I'm clicking and dragging an element, as soon as I start dragging, that little red trash can icon appears.
02:36
And when I have locked onto it with my mouse, it is highlighted in blue to let me know that I am dropping the image in the right spot.
02:44
That's a per block thing.
02:46
So unfortunately in Classic Editor, we no longer can delete multiple things at one time.
02:53
However, if you convert your section to Fluid Engine, if you're on version 7.1, you can actually select over all of the blocks that you want.
03:02
But you can see that when you do this number one, it's finicky because I didn't actually select all of those things.
03:09
I only wanted these two.
03:13
So you have to be careful how you select over things.
03:16
It does highlight them as you go.
03:18
Sometimes it works better than others as all things.
03:21
With Moon Engine it is generally pretty finicky, but just trash what you're doing.
03:29
When you have the right group selected, you now have two options.
03:33
You can move them together or you can delete them together.
03:38
And it doesn't ask you to confirm that, it just gets rid of them.
03:43
So let's back up a bit and put those back.
03:50
Drag over two options and then you realize you also want to select a third or a fourth bit and they're not in a group together.
03:59
Maybe you want to delete these two pieces, but you also want to delete that button.
04:04
I think you can do that if you press Shift on your keyboard before you select the additional items.
04:11
So click over the two that you want to get it up and then press Shift and click the third and then click the fourth and they don't have to be touching and it has to delete, delete those things.
04:22
So that's a different way that you can delete multiple things in Fluid Engine.
04:27
Fluent Engine is very responsive to keyboard commands.
04:31
So if you're used to using Control D, that actually works.
04:37
That's what I just did.
04:38
Press Control or Command D on my keyboard to undo instead of clicking this button.
04:44
It also responds to the up and down arrows on your keyboard, so it just moves up or down the right one cell at a time per press of the arrow.
04:55
There's also shift arrow, which moves it forward and backward when it's overlapping something.
05:01
So if I press Shift up or shift down, it's changing the battery.
05:07
So that's another thing that you may not be aware of in Fluid Engine.
05:10
So you do have to be kind of careful what you're pressing on your keyboard here because it may actually be affecting the more than you realize, because that was never really an option.
05:22
Those are a few good things to keep in mind and hope this really helped.
05:42
Sam.
