Create Presentations with Gemini in Google Slides 📊

I've been waiting a while for this one and it's good.

It is the ability to create full presentations in Google Slides.

You've been able to do this for a while in Canvas in the Gemini app, but this takes it a bit further because you can actually give a template for it to use and it will lay out the slides it's going to create before it does it.

It can look across your drive and so on.

So let's have a look.

I've got a template set of slides here that I'm going to use and I've got a document with some information in.

You don't need either of those things, but I think it's useful to start with the information up front.

I'm going to open a new tab in Chrome.

So the first step is just to go to Slides New or create some new Google Slides.

And you're going to get this pop up that you might have seen before.

And now there's this new option called Presentation.

So I click on this, it takes me to this kind of layout here with Gemini on the right hand side and it just starts this prompt with Create a presentation.

Now you could finish that sentence and describe a presentation and get it to create something completely from scratch and.

But instead I'm going to click the plus button first and I'm going to choose Add from Drive to add a source.

The source is the information it will use to put into the presentation.

For me, that is that quarterly business review document that I just showed you.

And then also there's this palette icon at the bottom here where I can select a presentation where it's going to match the style of that presentation when it creates this new one.

So I choose Add from Drive.

After clicking that, then I'm going to choose this quarterly business review template that I have here and click Add.

And I'm just going to finish that sentence where it says create a presentation.

I'm just going to put based on this document like this and submit that prompt like so.

Now when you first do this, it's going to give you a few more options to start with and and you could have also selected some of these options from the tools at the bottom.

So it's already got the style reference there, it's got the source that I've added and see there's connected apps.

Now for me this isn't so important because I'm providing a document with all the information.

But if you wrote a prompt that said, make a quarterly business review about a particular customer for example, you could give Gemini access to drive and Gmail and chat and even the web to go and find information based around that topic to then create the presentation.

I'm going to click next Once I've submitted that, it then asks me some more questions as well.

So the first one is asking who the primary audience is.

So, so I'm going to say it is company wide employees and team members.

What's the preferred density?

I want it balanced, which is key points with supporting context rather than something super in depth.

How long should it be?

So 6 to 10 slides sound good for me.

And then what are the core themes?

So I'm going to choose the financial growth option it's given me here.

I could take other and then I could provide a response of my own and let's just say sustainability initiatives.

This information is based off of what's in that document.

Click next.

And then you get given a plan, which is quite nice.

So it's kind of laid out the different slides that it's going to create, at least just the title of them anyway.

You can delete or you can click to edit or you can even click the plus to add more slides in between here.

I'm happy with all of that.

So I hit approve and now it's going to go ahead and create that presentation using all of that information in the document and the template that I gave it as a visual style in order to build out the slides.

Now I do find this takes a little while so to save the time I've got some that I created earlier.

here's what it came up with.

It's based on that template that you saw, but you can see it's built out of all of the information.

I'm actually really impressed with how it's used.

Things like tables, it's got different sizes of text in these text boxes and all of this is editable and true to that template.

If I click through to give you an idea, it's kind of kept this table element, it's used some of the different design, elements in there.

But it's also just created its own based off of how it looks with these lines and the different sections in this one, for example.

Well worth a try.

I hope that's helpful.

I'll, see you in the next one.
