Introducing Our New Rescue Dog Rowan 🐶

In a previous video, I talked to you about, losing our previous daughter, Luna, to lymphoma.

And in this one, I wanted to share a happy life update with you.

About Rowan, our newest adopted daughter.

But in this video, we're going to talk about this pretty little girl.

Who is that?

Who is that?

So this is Rowan.

She is four and a half months old.

She is a hound mix.

We do not know what yet, but we'll do a DNA test.

So I'll let you know when we find out.

We think maybe a little bit of Weimaraner, definitely a little bit of hound, but we don't know what kind.

We named her Rowan after our apparently accidental plant tradition here in our house.

We had Lily and then Luna, which is another white flower, and then Willow.

Brian, my husband, was like, we definitely need to keep up with the plant tradition.

So Rowan got Rowan, because we have a rowan tree in our backyard, and it's actually a really pretty one.

So this is Rowan.

She's very sweet, gentle, kind, quiet for the most part, and a little bit high anxiety because she was surrendered by somebody in the southeast of the United States.

We're in the northeast, who couldn't pay for her broken leg.

And you can actually feel it.

It's right in the middle of this leg, right here on the inside.

You can kind of feel the bone where it healed.

So anyway, the foster or rescue took her in, and they took her to the vet, and the vet said it'd be $1500 to amputate it, or $3000 to fix it.

And she said, I'm, gonna get a second opinion.

So she went to a different vet who said, yeah, we can just splint it.

Puppies heal really well, really fast.

So they put a splint on it, a new one every week for six weeks.

And that's why we got her so old, because she was ready for adoption.

But her.

Her leg was broken, so they had to fix that first.

So she was just available at the end of August.

We put a hold on her when we found her because we were really drawn to the way she looks, obviously.

But, we were also drawn to the fact that they listed her as gentle and shy, which was appealing to us because we have a cat also Willow.

And so we drove down to Connecticut to meet her, and she was absolutely precious.

She was curled up in a corner and felt safe enough with us to sleep, but not really safe enough for us to pet her.

She was really standoffish, but clearly a little bit afraid.

She's been through a lot.

They actually transported her up from Arkansas to Connecticut the day then they arrived, the day that we met her.

So she'd been through a lot, but we Both immediately felt like we had to protect her and that she needed a family that could be really patient with her as, she got more comfortable and more confident.

And so we decided to take her home.

We had researched, 30 different dogs within about a four or five hour radius of us, and this was just the first one that we met.

It just happened to be a good fit on the first try, so we brought her home.

I think it was the 22nd of August, and she's been doing great as I'm recording Now it's September 1st, so we've not even had her for two full weeks yet, but she's doing really, really well.

Already a lot more confident.

She's, handled meeting Willow really well.

Willow tolerates her.

she's also met a couple of our neighbor's kittens and she's already started to bark at strangers.

So she's feeling a little bit more like this is home.

She's protective of us in our space and she does really well in her crate.

She's not had a single potty accident the whole time, so she's actually a really good girl.

We could not be more happy with this baby.

I've been posting periodically over the weekend, just some new shots because she's just so fucking adorable.

We can't stop looking at her.

And she's so sweet and she has definitely bonded with me.

she's working on bonding with my husband too.

She does really well with him as well, but she's just definitely, like, attached to my hip, quite literally, almost.

so anyway, if you want more pictures of her, I post them regularly in the club.

And occasionally I'll probably post one or two on Instagram stories or something like that.

But anyway, she is helping us heal from the loss of Luna and she has gotten very comfortable with Luna's little grave site in our backyard sniffing around back there.

Eventually it'll be somewhere where we can all sit together.

So I think that's kind of nice.

And I'm happy to say that this has been a really good fit for us and really good timing we got to meet her the very day she was available to meet.

So I felt like this was really a sign that we were supposed to be the ones to Take her and be patient with her.

And she's already got all her spay and vaccinations and all of that, so it was really kind of an easy transition for us.

She sat in my lap in the car the entire way home.

And when she got here, we were having to carry her in and out of the back door because she was too afraid to leave her safe zones.

quickly she got to where she would cross the back door threshold herself and, and actually walk herself out into the backyard with us.

So that was good because she's about 30 pounds, so we didn't want to keep having to pick her up for potty breaks.

But she's doing really well.

She's getting more confident by the day.

We actually got to talk to her foster mom last week and.

And her foster mom's the one that told us the story about her being surrendered with a broken leg.

She'd gotten hit by a car.

the owner admitted that he wasn't paying attention to her.

And so she got.

I don't know if they didn't have a fence yard or what the situation was, but at any rate, he couldn't afford to do anything or didn't want to, I don't know.

But she stayed with her foster parents for six weeks while her leg healed, and then they took her up here for adoption.

So I could not be more thankful that they were transporting close enough to us to be able to go meet her in person and that the timing was right because if it had been any earlier, we wouldn't have healed enough.

In our grief after losing Luna, we, wouldn't be puppy ready.

We expanded our fence backyard area a little bit further out.

We had to dig out all of the old toys and the collars and the harnesses from our puppy stages in the past from either of our past daughters.

So, it was just really good timing and she's been a really good fit for us.

And so I skipped updating the channel and putting out a new video because we have been trying to give her as much of our attention as possible.

And so I just haven't been on the computer working at my desk very much.

But she's doing really well here.

She's actually.

I can point the camera down this way.

There she is.

she's actually doing really well as just like a sidekick in my office, just sleeping on her bed beside my desk.

And as, she gets more comfortable, I'll put her back where Luna used to sit back behind me.

So you'll get to a little bit more of her hopefully in future videos.

But anyway, that's it.

No business tips today.

I just wanted to share a personal update, give you guys a peek at, Rowan.

And yes, I have slipped and called her Willow, Lily and Luna.

All that's left is Caitlyn or Brian.

I will get it right eventually.

But after a week and a half, she's really fitting in here and we're really excited to have her.

And it could not be a, better fit.

We did our research and we picked the right one.

was, it was destiny or something.

And if you're in the mood to adopt your own pet.

We used adoptapet.com So that we could look for every humane society, rescue, etc.

In the general vicinity within like four or five hours of us, rather than going to each of their individual websites.

We did that too, actually, but Adopt a pet and petfinder.com did a pretty good job of aggregating all of that.

So if you're in the market for an adoption for yourself, whether it's a cat or dog, we really liked Adopt a Pet.

website and they connect with a lot of rescues and stuff.

Pet Finder is good too, but it's owned by Purina and they have a weird thing with the location where they show you where the dog is coming to, not necessarily where they currently are when the dog is listed.

And that was confusing because we weren't sure, like, are they meetable before we ask and reach out to the shelter or whatever?

Or like, do we have to wait or would we have to travel?

So, like, that threw up a lot of questions.

But anyway, as nerds often do, I made a database in notion with all of the links to the different pets that we were interested in with pictures and basic stats like pointer mix, hound mix, German shepherd lab mix, whatever the dog was and roughly where they were located, where we'd have to go to meet them.

So.

So, it was an easy thing to fall in love with all 30 of them.

And if I had the veterinary funds.

I would definitely want to adopt two or three more, but we are really not a multi dog household, unfortunately.

So Rowan, won our hearts, and that is where we are right now.
