What is a product demo video?

A product demo video shows how a product or feature works. Product demos don’t normally need to go into lots of details, their purpose is to give viewers enough information to be interested and have a general understanding of how things work. Product demos are great for getting both customers and potential customers to that “ah-ha!” moment because they can see how things look and work.

How to make a product demo video:

Step 1: Record

From the Tella recorder choose what you want to capture — you can record your screen and camera at the same time, or only your screen — then press “Start recording”. Record as many clips as you need to cover the different parts of your demo.

Step 2: Customise

Once you’ve recorded your clips you can customise and edit them. Trim clips so that they start and end where you want. Choose custom backgrounds and layouts.

Step 3: Share or Download

When you’re done editing, press “Finish”. Now you can share a link to your video’s page, post on social media, or download as an mp4 file.

FAQ

How do you make a good product demo video?

Good product demos are concise and informative. A good product demo should clearly demonstrate how the product or feature works — a screen recording with a voiceover is a simple way to do this. Including a video of your camera will make your demo more engaging for viewers.

How do you structure a product demo?

Structure your product demo as if you were writing a short essay. Start with an introduction, explaining what’s going to be covered. Then show the necessary parts of the product (always try to show things the way an end-user would expect to use them). Conclude the video with a brief summary of what you demonstrated.

How long should my product demo be?

Keep your product demos short. Between 1 minute and 5 minutes is a good range depending on where you share your video and who it’s intended for. For example, if your video is shared on social media you’ll want it to be short and easy to grab viewer’s attention. If your video is for new sign-ups then it might be worth taking more time to explain your product.
