# How to add a team member to your video

> Add workspace members as editors or viewers to individual videos or in bulk.

<Tip>
  **Prerequisite:** To add a member to a video, you need to ensure the user you want to add is in the same Tella workspace as you.

  [You can follow this guide to learn how to add a team member to your Tella workspace.](/help/admin/invite-a-new-member-to-your-tella-workspace "/help/admin/invite-a-new-member-to-your-tella-workspace")
</Tip>

Some instances where you might want to invite a team member to one of your Tella videos include:

* Allowing them to edit your video

* Allowing them to view your video (useful if viewer downloads are disabled)

When you add a team member, you can assign them one of two roles:

* **Editor** — the member can edit the video and change collaborator roles on the video.
* **Viewer** — the member can watch the video but cannot make changes.

## Add a team member to a single video

1. Open the video you want to add your teammate to

2. Click on the "+" icon on the top right next to the preview button

3. Enter the email address of the teammate you want to add

4. Select the role you want to assign (**Can edit** or **Can view**)

5. Click "Done"

## Add a team member to multiple videos at once

You can add a team member as an editor or viewer to several videos in one step.

1. Go to your video library

2. Select the videos you want to add the team member to

3. Click the **Add user** button in the toolbar that appears

4. Search for and select the workspace member you want to add

5. Choose the role — **Can edit** or **Can view**

6. Click **Add** to confirm

The team member is added to all selected videos with the role you chose.

## Change a team member's role

Both the video creator and any editor on the video can change an existing collaborator's role between **Can edit** and **Can view**.

1. Open the video

2. Click the collaborator list (next to the "+" icon in the top right)

3. Find the team member whose role you want to change

4. Select the new role — **Can edit** or **Can view**

<Note>
  You cannot change your own role or change the role of the video creator.
</Note>

### Upgrading a viewer to editor

If a workspace member has a **Viewer** license (a free seat), they can only view videos.

To give a Viewer editing access, their workspace license must first be upgraded to **Member** (a paid seat). Here's how it works:

* **Workspace owners** can upgrade the license directly from the share modal. When you select **Can edit** for a Viewer, Tella shows an "Upgrade to paid seat?" confirmation. Confirming upgrades their workspace license to Member and grants them editor access on the video. This adds a billable seat to your subscription.
* **Non-owners** see a tooltip on the Viewer's role explaining that you need to contact the workspace owner to upgrade the user's license.

<Tip>
  To learn more about how seats and billing work, see [Understanding your Tella bill](/help/billing/understanding-your-bill).
</Tip>

## Transfer ownership of a video

If you're the creator of a video, you can hand ownership over to another workspace member — for example, when you're leaving a project or someone else has taken it over. After the transfer, the new owner becomes the **Creator** and you're kept on the video as an **Editor**, so you don't lose access.

1. Open the video and click the collaborator list (next to the "+" icon in the top right)

2. If the person you're transferring to isn't already a collaborator, add them as an **Editor** first

3. Open their access dropdown and select **Transfer ownership**

4. Confirm the transfer

<Note>
  Only the current creator can transfer ownership, and only to another member of the same workspace. You can't transfer ownership to yourself, to a viewer-license user, or across workspaces.
