# See yourself while recording with picture-in-picture

> Turn on picture-in-picture in the Tella Chrome extension to keep a floating camera preview and recording controls on top of everything while you record.

Picture-in-picture (Beta) opens a small floating window with your camera preview, a timer, and the recording controls while you record with the Chrome extension. It stays on top of whatever you're doing and follows you across tabs and apps, so you can see yourself and stop, restart, or cancel without hunting for the extension.

Because it's a separate window and not part of the page, it never shows up in your recording.

## Turn on picture-in-picture

1. Open the Tella Chrome extension.
2. Click the **…** menu in the top-right corner of the popup and choose **Settings**.
3. Turn on **Picture-in-picture**.

Tella remembers your choice for future recordings. Turn it off from the same place.

<Note>
  Picture-in-picture is only available in Google Chrome. The setting is hidden in other Chromium browsers such as Arc, Brave, Edge, and Opera.
</Note>

## What you'll see while recording

The floating window opens when you start a recording that includes your screen (a tab or a window):

* **Screen + camera:** your camera preview with the timer and stop button on top of it.
* **Screen only:** a compact window with just the timer and controls.

Below the preview you'll find **Restart** and **Cancel**. Both ask you to confirm before discarding the current take.

Camera-only recordings don't use the floating window. The extension popup stays as your recording UI.

## Record your entire screen

Picture-in-picture is not available for **Entire screen** recordings, since the floating window would end up in the video. While the setting is on, the share picker only offers tabs and windows. To record your entire screen, turn picture-in-picture off first.

## Multi-clip recordings

In [Multi-clip mode](/docs/help/recording/use-clips), the window stays open between clips. When you stop a clip it shows a **Preview** button with your clip count, and you can start the next clip straight from the window.

## Close or bring back the window

* **Close it** with the **X** in its title bar. It stays closed for the rest of that recording, and the recording keeps going. Open the extension from its toolbar icon to stop or cancel.
* **Reloading or navigating** the tab you're recording closes the window (Chrome requires a click to reopen it). Click anywhere on the page and it comes back.

If the window can't open at all, Tella falls back to the usual on-screen recording toolbar.
